186 Life Sciences Associate of Applied Science Programs

You’ll complete the requirements of the freshman and sophomore years of most engineering programs at a university. This pre-major program is designed to prepare you to transfer at the junior level into an engineering program at a four-year college or university.

The Associate of Science in Bioengineering and Chemical Engineering is a state-recognized Major Related Program (MRP) designed for students who plan to transfer to a Bachelor of Science degree program at a four-year college or university. Entry into many engineering programs is competitive, and students are urged to work closely with TCC advisors and university advisors to ensure all entry requirements are met. The first two years of a bachelor’s degree in Bioengineering can be completed at TCC. Students can earn an associate degree to transfer to a Washington state public university.

The Associate in Science, Transfer Track 1 is designed to fulfill the requirements of baccalaureate institutions for transfer with junior standing. The requirement of the degree is completion of a minimum of 90 credits with a specific number in each of English/Humanities distribution, Social Sciences distribution, Science, and Quantitative Skills courses.

To qualify for the Associate in Science in Health Sciences degree, students must satisfactorily complete the Degree Major requirements specified below and the local AA/ AS General Education requirements.

Science courses emphasize problem-solving, critical thinking, and synthesis of information. Students will practice laboratory safety, carry out experimental procedures, and identify possible sources of error. Students will learn to apply principles of scientific inquiry, differentiate a theory from a hypothesis, and differentiate fact from opinion in regard to sciences. Students will develop the connection of the relevance of science to everyday events and circumstances in a broad interdisciplinary context. For the Associate of Science, students must complete the General Education pattern and elective courses for an additional 40 units. As this degree alone may not be complete preparation for transfer, students wishing to continue at the UC or CSU system should meet with a counselor to develop a transfer plan which addresses all general education and lower-division transfer requirements.

Biotechnology Associate in Science Degree Biotechnology draws from many disciplines, including genetics, immunology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, and computer science. Recent advances in biotechnology have resulted in major contributions to the fields of medicine, pharmacy, public health, and agriculture.

Environmental science is the study of the interaction of humans and the physical and biological systems of the earth, and the dependence on natural resources by humans. It involves the study of the interaction and co-evolution of human, physical, and biological systems. At TCC, you can earn an Associate in Science with a Specialization in Environmental Science. Upon completion of this program, you will be prepared to transfer to a four-year institution.

The Nursery Management Specialist Associate in Science degree program provides advanced training for working in the wholesale and retail nursery industry. Students will learn growing and maintenance practices for a wide variety of plant species, advanced propagation techniques, watering systems, basic soil and fertilizer chemistry, pest and disease control, and nursery business operations.

Environmental Science combines information from biology, chemistry, physics, and geology, stressing a scientific approach toward understanding the nature and scope of current environmental issues.

The Animal Science Associates Degree focuses on animal behavior, husbandry, production, and services which; are a critical part of animal agriculture and related industries. The curriculum provides a combination of technical knowledge and practical skills utilizing a hands-on approach to instruction.

The A.S. in Agricultural Science and Technology is designed to enable students to prepare for a career in this essential and diverse profession. It is also ideal for those who desire a career in agricultural education. The curriculum is flexible in nature to allow for previous experience and specialization in a given area of agriculture. The program is unique in that most courses provide hands-on experiences designed to give the students a combination of practical skills and technical knowledge.

Wallace State's Agricultural Production and Sustainable Agriculture programs are designed to prepare students for various jobs in local agriculture, business, and industry. Students may find jobs in areas such as landscaping, forestry, aquaculture operations, conservation, and farming. Other potential opportunities include managing or owning a farm, greenhouse or nursery.

The Registered Veterinary Technology Program, which is accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association, is designed to enable students to prepare for a career in this essential and diverse profession. The program is unique in that most courses provide a hands-on experience designed to give the student a combination of practical skills and technical knowledge.

You’ll learn about matter and energy down to the molecular level. Courses build a solid foundation in general chemistry and develop your understanding of the scientific method of experimentation, observation, and analysis of results. You’ll also gain hands-on experience in the lab.
