Trevecca’s Associate of Science in film production is a two-year degree that equips you for a variety of jobs in film, television, and media arts. You’ll acquire the skills to write, edit and produce media for the exciting industry of film production, or continue with your education to earn a Bachelor of Science in media arts and studies.

Upon successful completion of Associate in Science in Mt. San Antonio College’s Film, Television, and Electronic Media for Transfer degree requirements, the student will have demonstrated an understanding of coursework and foundational training in all stages of television and film production, including the historical, business and legal underpinnings of the industry; writing for the screen; visual and aural aesthetics; live and pre-recorded television and film production techniques; and post-production aesthetics and techniques.

The program prepares individuals to communicate information, entertainment, and ideas through film, television, and video. This includes practical, hands-on instruction in how to plan and produce a variety of genres in film, television, and video; crew responsibilities and production techniques for film, television, video, and audio; equipment operation, including film and video cameras, editing equipment, switchers, character generators, lighting instruments, and microphones; techniques for making specific types of film, television and video programming; use of digital technology and computer applications to record, edit or enhance images, audio, graphics or effects; and how to manage film and video operations.

It demands the cooperation and dedication of screenwriter, cinematographer, producer, director and editor working together in a complex, creative enterprise. Film and Television explores the theory, criticism and production of motion pictures. The Film and Television Department at Santa Barbara City College offers a wide variety of courses designed for film majors and interested non-majors who wish to enhance their knowledge and appreciation of film as part of their undergraduate education. The Film, Television, and Electronic Media major consists of courses appropriate for the Associate in Science in Film, Television, and Electronic Media for Transfer degree, which provides a foundational understanding of the discipline, a breadth of coursework in the discipline, and preparation for transfer to any CSU that accepts the Transfer Model Curriculum (TMC). The Associate in Science in Film, Television, and Electronic Media for Transfer is intended for students who plan to complete a bachelor’s degree in Film, Television, and Electronic Media (or an approved similar major) at a CSU campus. Students completing this degree are guaranteed admission to the CSU system, but not to a particular campus or major. Students transferring to a CSU campus that does accept this degree will be required to complete no more than 60 (semester) units after transfer to earn a bachelor’s degree. This degree may not be the best option for students intending to transfer to a particular CSU campus or to a university or college that is not part of the CSU system. In all cases, students should consult with a counselor for more information on university admission and transfer requirements.

The Film Production Associate of Science Degree provides a platform from which to launch a further study of film production as well as necessary industry skills, processes, and practices to work on a film crew, produce an independent film, create and run a small film/video business and monetize video in the many social media outlets available today.

The Film and Sound Design program offers an occupational degree that immerses college students in the world and industry of film and sound design. IPR’s condensed program allows students to earn a multi-skill, multi-functional Occupational Associate of Applied Science Degree in as little as two years. Film and sound design program students learn hands-on, entry-level skills in every aspect of the film business: recording, post-production, and design. Work as a part of a team to produce your own film- from concept and storyboard, to production and editing – you’ll graduate with a portfolio of work to showcase your creativity and launch your career in the exciting Film Industry.

Film & Digital Media Arts @Northern provides students the opportunity to make films, write screenplays, do sound design and photography, and digital images for print, web, and video. Students gain hands-on experience in professional production environments learning teamwork and work ethic. Students explore television, narrative, and documentary filmmaking with an emphasis on personal expression.

The Film Production Technology Associate in Science (A.S.) degree at Valencia College is a two-year program that prepares you to go directly into a specialized career in the film industry. Nationally recognized for making students employable, the program provides training for entry-level positions in six major areas of film production: gripping, electrical-lighting, editing, sound, camera and set construction. All classes are hands-on and are taught by professional filmmakers who use their connections to help students find work on film crews, learning alongside professionals on actual film sets. Valencia film students have had a hand in 47 feature films in the last two decades. Each year, Valencia’s Annual Film Celebration showcases the feature-length films that Valencia’s film production students worked on, as well as student-made short films.

Students enrolled in the Broadcasting Production Technology curriculum will develop professional skills in radio, television, audio, video, and related applications. Training will emphasize speech, scriptwriting, production planning, editing, and post-production. Students will also study the development of the broadcasting industry, sales, ethics, law, marketing, and management. Hands-on training and teamwork approaches are essential to the instructional process. Upon successful completion, students are prepared to enter broadcasting, production, and related industries in a variety of occupations.
