Engineers design and create the future. They use the principles of math, science, and engineering to design and build new products or to develop large-scale systems such as transportation networks or water treatment plants. Engineering problems usually involve teams of people, so engineers must work well with others and communicate effectively. The Associate in Science in Engineering is designed to prepare students for transfer to engineering programs at four-year universities. Upon completion of the Associate in Science in Engineering, students will possess the knowledge and skills required for upper-division coursework in Engineering.

Engineering is the art of applying scientific and mathematical principles, experience, judgment, and common sense to make things that benefit people. Engineers solve problems. They improve and develop products to meet consumer and societal needs. They find ways for existing products to work better, last longer, operate more safely, and cost less. They also look for innovative solutions to global problems. Engineers design bridges and important medical equipment as well as processes for cleaning up toxic spills and systems for mass transit.

Evergreen Valley College offers a two-year lower-division Engineering Program that allows students to transfer to any four-year California College or University offering a degree in Engineering. The lower division Engineering Core Courses recommended by the Engineering Liaison Committee of the State of California have been coordinated between community colleges and the four-year colleges and universities throughout California. The Associate in Arts and the Associate in Science Degrees are available for engineering students. The engineering degree programs consist of the Engineering Core courses plus General Education courses that satisfy graduation requirements. Students wishing to transfer to a four-year institution in a branch of engineering, but do not wish to obtain an Associate Degree must complete the Engineering Core courses and obtain a Verification of Completion Form from the office of Admissions & Records before transferring. It is recommended that students complete as much of their General Education requirements as possible. To facilitate the application process to four-year institutions, students should request a Verification of Completion Form from the Office of Admissions and Records for verification of completion of the lower division Engineering Core courses. A grade of “C” or better in each major course and the major elective course is required for this degree.
