In this program, you’ll learn to maintain, test, repair, and/or replace complex electrical systems and controls found in modern industrial plants and large commercial buildings. The program includes hands-on training in motors, generators, robotics, power distribution, and other electrical systems.

The A.S. Degree in Environmental Horticulture with an emphasis in Nursery and Greenhouse Technology, prepares the student for professional work in the nursery and greenhouse plant production field by equipping them with skills in plant propagation, greenhouse design and small business skills. Environmental Horticulture (EH) teaches students the skills and knowledge required for success in the professions of landscape maintenance, landscape design, permaculture, nursery and greenhouse work, and ecological restoration. The program encourages professional standards, a strong work ethic and environmentally sound practices.

The Energy Systems Technology – Associate in Applied Science program prepares students for careers as technicians within the energy industry. This 60-credit degree will provide students with the diverse skillset necessary to work competently within the various sectors of the industry: energy production, energy transmission, and energy distribution.

The A.S. degree in Energy Management and Building Science will prepare students for new and emerging career opportunities in energy management technology, building energy audit, facilities management, building design and sustainability and renewable energy systems. Completion of the degree program provides students with a skilled knowledge of energy efficiency principles and prepares them for careers in managing and monitoring energy efficient buildings. The program curriculum is aligned with professional certifications offered by the International Facilities Management Association (IFMA), including Facilities Management Professional (FMP) and Sustainable Facilities Professional (SFP). Students will also be well prepared for the certification test for Renewable (Solar) Energy Professional offered by the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP).

The Associate in Applied Science with a Major in Radiation Protection Technology (RPT), also known as Radiological Control (RADCON), allows the student to develop the skills necessary to evaluate a worksite requiring radiological controls.

Building on the Short-Term and One-Year Certificates in Sustainable Agriculture, the Associate of Applied Science in Sustainable Agriculture will allow you explore careers in in agriculture and food systems. You will learn key sustainability and land stewardship skills while studying the interactions between food, human health, and ecosystem services. You will contribute to the production, distribution, and marketing of locally grown produce through hands-on experiences with local farmers and growers.

The Associate of Applied Science Degree Program in Petroleum Technology is designed to prepare students for employment in the upstream and midstream segments of the oil and gas industry. As the exploration and development of petroleum and shale gas resources expand in the Marcellus, Utica, and other regional geological formations, excellent employment opportunities exist throughout this region and across the country for students who complete this program. The program includes 60 credit hours of study. Of the 60 hours, 18 are general education courses and 42 are specific to the petroleum industry. The curriculum focuses on the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that are required for success in technician-level jobs within the upstream and midstream segments of the petroleum industry.

Lead the future in clean and renewable energy, green building products, ecological design, building automation and controls, and sustainable landscaping. The Green Building Technology, AAS, provides students with the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to design, construct, operate and maintain sustainable buildings and renewable energy systems.

Graduates of the Sustainable Energy Systems (SES) Program have a broad understanding of energy efficiency and conservation, comprehensive energy and electrical-load audits, alternative electrical energy generation using photovoltaics, wind turbines, fuel cells, and micro-hydro.

Renewable Energy Technologies prepares students for entry-level positions constructing, installing and maintaining solar and wind electricity generating systems for both residential and light commercial applications. Course curricula include English, math, science, industrial technology, and electrical technology.

The mission of the Department of Engineering and Technology at Northern New Mexico College is to provide education of the highest quality to students in its various associates, bachelors and post-baccalaureate Engineering, Information Technology and Electromechanical Engineering. In addition, we prepare students to consider the pursuit of a career or an advanced degree by providing outreach and professional services at current academic and industrial standards.

A wind turbine technician, also known as a Wind Tech, is a person who is specially trained to prevent wind turbines from malfunctioning or stopping completely. This is done by providing wind farms with routine inspections, troubleshooting any problems, and repairing the wind turbines when necessary. Wind turbine inspections require the technician to climb the turbine and inspect all the parts of the turbine. If any problems are found, then the technician will note the problems and schedule it for repair. Routine maintenance or common repairs of wind turbines include component replacement, hydraulic system repair, troubleshooting electrical issues, fluid changes, and torqueing the turbine.

This program is based on the nuclear industry “Non-Licensed Operator” training requirements. Students meeting specific academic standards are eligible to receive, upon graduation, a “Nuclear Uniform Curriculum” certificate issued by the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) and Lakeland.

This Petroleum Technology Associates Degree program has courses designed to provide a wide range of education, exposure, and experience with the history, equipment, and many careers that comprise the Petroleum industry.

The Petroleum Technology program is designed to prepare students for employment in the natural gas drilling, gathering, and field operations industry associated with the Marcellus and Utica Shales development.
