Peninsula College’s Construction Technology program is an important component to the college’s commitment to workforce training in sustainable industries. The Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree in Construction Technology offers a comprehensive program designed to prepare students for employment in sustainable green construction trades, alternative building materials and methods and construction management. Foundation classes cover basic woodworking, foundations framing, roof systems and alternative energy. Core courses teach students green building concepts and design, engineered building materials, blueprint reading and alternative building methods. Capstone classes include jobsite management, construction leadership and estimation. Instruction consists of classroom presentations, hands-on training in lab settings and online learning modules.

Become a construction manager or building inspector. The job market is strong for both career paths, especially with the increasing complexity of today's construction projects. Classes offer the most current information available and include project management, estimating, codes, inspection, and construction-related computer applications. The Construction Management program at Edmonds College is accredited by the American Council for Construction Education. The program is one of eight similarly accredited associate degree programs in the United States.

Construction Management (CM) at Laney College is a great program for anyone who is interested in construction and wants to get familiar with the management skills required for working as a management professional or expanding entrepreneurial skills required for small businesses.

The Landscape Design and Construction Specialist Associate in Science degree program provides additional training for students interested in working in the field of landscape design/build. The curriculum provides advanced studies in design, plant ID, and basic horticulture, and provides foundational training toward working in a design/ build firm, and obtaining a landscape contractor’s license, irrigation design certification, and related specialties (lighting, water features, water management).

This two-year competency-based program leads to an Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree in Welding Technology and provides training for skills and related technical knowledge necessary for advancement in the metals industry. Instruction includes classroom study as well as extensive practice in the welding lab. Peninsula College provides American Welding Society (AWS) certification testing for students in an approved facility on the campus.

The Diesel Technology Program provides a well-rounded education in the service and repair of trucks and heavy equipment related to areas including farming, logging, marine, locomotive, and construction. Students learn theory in shop practice, diesel engines, safety, hydraulics, DC electrical systems and microcomputers, power trains, brakes, and chassis and suspension. Students learn comprehensive safety training applicable to the work environment. Employment opportunities are available with a wide variety of diverse companies including trucking, logging, mining, construction, general and specialty repair shops, dealerships, and government agencies including the park service, the state, county shops, city shops, and other state and federal agencies.

Our program is designed to instruct students in the principles of carpentry and provide participation in all phases of the building process. Carpentry students build a new house and/or remodel existing structures. By using on and off-campus building projects, we teach construction principles, and best practices and develop hands-on skills.

This program provides training that prepares students to set up and operate machining equipment, handle inspection devices, analyze production problems, and move into the supervision of machining. Students obtain a strong background in machining, engineering graphics, computers (CAD/CAM/CNC), quality control/quality assurance, material handling and processing, and leadership skills. The program provides a balance between practical training in manufacturing processes and technical education in manufacturing analysis, planning, and control with a supporting emphasis on communications, mathematics, science, and business.

Welding Technology is a participating organization of the American Welding Society’s SENSE (Schools Excelling through National Skill Standards Education) Program. This program is designed to provide training in a sequential manner for various welding processes, starting with simple tasks and progressing through more complex assignments. Those processes include shielded metal arc welding, gas metal arc welding, flux cored arc welding, gas tungsten arc welding, oxy-acetylene cutting, brazing and welding, and the use of plasma arc cutting equipment. Students receive practical and theoretical training in the weldability of metals and alloys, blueprint reading, mathematics, and metallurgy.

Welding Technology touches on every profession and industry that uses metal. This program prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills for joining and cutting metallic materials. This includes instruction in SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, GTAW welding processes; oxyacetylene, and plasma cutting of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Includes, welding metallurgy, structural welding safety, and applicable codes and standards. These skills prepare students for the following careers: ironworker trade, steelworker trade, construction trades, pile driver trades, and glazing trades.

Industrial Maintenance-Millwright Technology prepares students for work in industrial mills. This is a multi-skilled trade that uses areas of fabrication, electronics, electrical systems, automation, computers, hydraulics, PLCs, and mechanical systems. Conveyor systems, power distribution, and service to all sorts of automated equipment are taught. Rigging, mechanical drive systems, installation and alignment of equipment, and pumps are taught. The Millwright program is designed to prepare graduates for entry-level employment as apprentice technicians, with emphasis on practical experience in both theory and laboratory settings using lab equipment and assemblies similar to equipment found in the industry.

The Heating, Venting, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVACR) Technology Program prepares students with training in the heating, air conditioning, ventilation, and refrigeration field, both commercial and residential. Skills learned will enable graduates to choose from a variety of occupations such as heating and air conditioning and/or refrigeration, and general maintenance in these areas. Program flexibility allows students to enter at their existing level of competency and continue training to an employable skill level. Classroom instruction is provided in basic electricity, electric motors, refrigeration, heating systems, air conditioning, and general maintenance skills. Emphasis is placed on developing a logical approach to servicing, troubleshooting, and repair through directed practice. Employment in the field requires good physical health due to the size and weight of some units.

The Welding Technology Program introduces students to both the theoretical and manipulative skills necessary to perform in a broad range of welding careers. Students practice several different types of manual welding and learn the technical and scientific aspects of the welding process.

This includes instruction in diagnostic techniques, the use of testing equipment, and the principles of mechanics, electricity, and electronics as they relate to the repair of commercial HVAC systems.
