9 Construction Project Management Associate of Applied Science Programs in North America

Peninsula College’s Construction Technology program is an important component to the college’s commitment to workforce training in sustainable industries. The Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree in Construction Technology offers a comprehensive program designed to prepare students for employment in sustainable green construction trades, alternative building materials and methods and construction management. Foundation classes cover basic woodworking, foundations framing, roof systems and alternative energy. Core courses teach students green building concepts and design, engineered building materials, blueprint reading and alternative building methods. Capstone classes include jobsite management, construction leadership and estimation. Instruction consists of classroom presentations, hands-on training in lab settings and online learning modules.

Become a construction manager or building inspector. The job market is strong for both career paths, especially with the increasing complexity of today's construction projects. Classes offer the most current information available and include project management, estimating, codes, inspection, and construction-related computer applications. The Construction Management program at Edmonds College is accredited by the American Council for Construction Education. The program is one of eight similarly accredited associate degree programs in the United States.

Construction Management (CM) at Laney College is a great program for anyone who is interested in construction and wants to get familiar with the management skills required for working as a management professional or expanding entrepreneurial skills required for small businesses.

The Construction Management Program prepares students to enter the construction industry in technical, managerial, and supervisory roles in three major areas: residential and light commercial building construction, heavy commercial building construction, and civil construction (roads, bridges, utilities). Entry-level employment is generally in the areas of project management, field inspection, material testing, cost estimating, computer-aided drafting, and surveying.

TMCC Building Construction Technology Program’s goal is to provide training to prepare students with the knowledge and skills needed in the building construction industry. Students will enhance their technical skills through task-oriented specific skills in carpentry. Students will practice their skills by building a residential home as a class project. Students will enhance their problem-solving skills, decision-making skills, and leadership skills with business courses in science, communications, management, computer technology courses, and general education courses. Students will learn service-learning skills and leadership skills through student organization involvement, classroom discussions, and demonstrations. The Building Construction Technology – Entrepreneur Emphasis provides students with the skills and knowledge to own or manage a business.

The construction curriculum is designed to provide students with hands-on training strengthened with technical information that will prepare them for entry into the construction industry or for their own personal construction projects. Specialty courses are available in Plumbing and Electrical to give students a greater depth of knowledge in construction.

Building Construction Technology provides students with one- and two-year options tailored for differing occupational goals. Students can choose courses in drafting, construction layout, estimating, management, residential construction, energy-efficient building methods, construction safety, cabinet-making, and interior finish.

AAS degrees are awarded in numerous disciplines. Associate of Applied Science degrees provides knowledge and skills, leading to employment in specialized fields.

Engineering technology with a construction specialization prepares students for a career in either architectural construction or civil (highway) construction.
