The Information Technology degree at Jamestown Community College prepares you to enter the workforce immediately after graduation with the ability to perform installation, configuration, maintenance, and documentation services. You will be able to support computers, applications, networks, and databases.

The Associate in Science in Computer Information Systems is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills required for a variety of positions in the field of computer information technology. The program includes foundation courses in computer information systems and a wide range of skill-builder courses in current topics of technology.

Solid preparation for transfer majors in Computer Science. Courses in object-oriented programming logic in C++, computer architecture, calculus, and calculus-based physics. Completion of the Computer Science: Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) will prepare you to meet minimum lower-division admission requirements (60 transferable units) for transfer to the University of California (UC) system. If you would like to transfer to the California State University (CSU) system, please meet with a counselor for additional requirements that may be needed. The Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree in Information Technology Systems Administration trains students, using industry-based skill standards. Students will design, implement, secure, and support Microsoft, Unix/Linux, and other industry-standard networks, client, and server systems. Students will learn about the fundamental business context where IT systems function including business communication skills. Classroom instruction and practical experiences are combined into a course of study that provides students with broad exposure to the principles of network management and basic a basic understanding of the current information technology business environment.

The Associate in Applied Science-Transfer (AAS-T) degree in Information Technology Systems Administration trains students, using industry-based skill standards. The Electronics and Computer Engineering Technology (ECET) certificate program prepares individuals either for initial employment or for enhancement of existing skills in the electronics field or for transfer into B.S. programs in Electronics Technology or Industrial Technology offered in the CSU system. Students completing the ECET certificate program possess ample skills to make them versatile employees.

Information Technology prepares students for a wide range of employment opportunities in the design, implementation, and security of Internetworking solutions for small, medium, and large enterprises. Positions involving technical support for small computer system hardware and software implementations embedded in local and wide area networks are supported through the use of the CompTIA, Microsoft, and network offerings. Major elements of this course of study include microcomputer theory, data communications, operating systems, security fundamentals including virus eradication, systems hardware, and software analysis, virtualization, troubleshooting techniques, use of computer analysis hardware, and application of all of these elements in the work setting. This program has physical requirements that may affect the student’s ability to perform in this field.

Engineering Technology is the powerhouse department that combines training in composites manufacturing and mechatronics. Classes introduce students to materials science, composite materials, engineering design, mechatronics, and automation technology. Gain experience in hands-on state-of-the-art labs equipped with 3D printers, 3D scanners, injection molders, and robotic arms, along with equipment to test, construct, design, and build items both large and small. Capstone projects include fan-powered, radio-controlled robotic cars with printed and composite parts.

This program provides training that prepares students to set up and operate machining equipment, handle inspection devices, analyze production problems, and move into the supervision of machining. Students obtain a strong background in machining, engineering graphics, computers (CAD/CAM/CNC), quality control/quality assurance, material handling and processing, and leadership skills. The program provides a balance between practical training in manufacturing processes and technical education in manufacturing analysis, planning, and control with a supporting emphasis on communications, mathematics, science, and business.

The Industrial Electronics Technology Program provides entry-level skills in basic core competencies desired by the industry today. This program prepares students for work in the installation, testing, and maintenance of electrical and electronic systems in industrial, scientific, and commercial facilities. The program also provides specific training in basic computer hardware and software, programmable logic controllers, motors and motor control systems, three-phase power distribution, and human-machine interface and programming. Graduates are prepared to pursue jobs in areas such as automated manufacturing, electrical power distribution, protection systems, and other electrically-related fields.

The degree offers a balanced set of classes that provides students with the knowledge and skills to obtain jobs in the areas of data science, data analysis, data mining, text mining, business intelligence, machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, and artificial intelligence research. Students will learn how to make business decisions using different machine learning algorithms and deep learning prediction models of different complexities.
