The Associate in Science in Computer Information Systems is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills required for a variety of positions in the field of computer information technology. Computer Science has grown dramatically over the last decade, until it now affects each of us in our daily lives. We come into contact with dozens of different computer systems each day. These range from automatic bank tellers and "intelligent" cash registers, to automobile fuel monitoring systems. The Computer Science Department teaches students how to design and implement the computer software that brings intelligence to computer systems. Santa Barbara City College's Computer Science program includes introductory to advanced topics. It is designed to provide general education, transfer and occupational training.

The Computer Programming specialization is intended to prepare students for a career or further study in computer programming. A computer programmer works with a computer analyst and computer engineer to analyze, design, develop, test, implement and maintain computer applications to meet the functional objectives of a business.

The Electronics and Computer Engineering Technology (ECET) certificate program prepares individuals either for initial employment or for enhancement of existing skills in the electronics field or for transfer into B.S. programs in Electronics Technology or Industrial Technology offered in the CSU system. Students completing the ECET certificate program possess ample skills to make them versatile employees.

The Computer Engineering Technology, A.S. Program provides a solid foundation in the installation, maintenance, and repair of computer systems, computer networks, robotics, and simulation technology. The program provides a general electronics background and prepares students to pass the A+ Certification Examination.

The A.S. Degree in Computer Programming is designed to prepare students for a career in computer programming. The degree offers a balanced set of classes that provides students with client, server, and database programming skills required by the industry. Emphasis is placed on object-oriented programming applications, configuring servers, creating and navigating databases, and reusable software components.

The Game Development specialization is intended to prepare students for a career or further study in game development. Courses emphasize the specific skills necessary for the design, development, marketing and testing of computer games. Industry standard programming languages and development tools are utilized in this specialization.

The Network Engineering specialization prepares students for employment as networking specialists in the communications industry. The material presented in the Network Engineering curriculum provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to successfully complete many of the exams required for Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) and Microsoft (MS) certifications.
