18 Climate Policy and Environmental Management Associate of Applied Science Programs

Wallace State's Agricultural Production and Sustainable Agriculture programs are designed to prepare students for various jobs in local agriculture, business, and industry. Students may find jobs in areas such as landscaping, forestry, aquaculture operations, conservation, and farming. Other potential opportunities include managing or owning a farm, greenhouse or nursery.

The Fish and Wildlife Management Technology program prepare individuals to conserve and manage wilderness areas and the life therein and manage wildlife reservations and zoological/aquarium facilities for recreational, commercial, and ecological purposes.

Building on the Short-Term and One-Year Certificates in Sustainable Agriculture, the Associate of Applied Science in Sustainable Agriculture will allow you explore careers in in agriculture and food systems. You will learn key sustainability and land stewardship skills while studying the interactions between food, human health, and ecosystem services. You will contribute to the production, distribution, and marketing of locally grown produce through hands-on experiences with local farmers and growers.

Careers such as Natural Resource Managers, Water Resource Specialists, and Environmental Compliance Officers are possibilities with this pathway. This is an Associates of Science Degree that is intended for transfer. Graduates who do not plan to transfer may pursue employment.

One of the most important natural resources, water, needs to be monitored, tested, and recycled. Vermilion’s Water Quality Science and Water Operations program focuses on water use in wastewater, water treatment, facility water systems, and water usage.

The Agriculture program focuses on sustainable agriculture in rural and urban farm settings, agribusiness planning and management, and essential farming principles and practices that can transfer to the agriculture sector and agriculture-related roles, such as agribusiness, organic farming, agricultural and greenhouse management, beekeeping, and more! MCC’s associate degrees enhance your resume and prepare you to enter the workforce with an advantage. Whether you are interested in simply completing basic, required college courses or specializing in a specific area, there’s a degree for you.

The Sustainability Studies program at Corning Community College is designed for students interested in pursuing careers related to environmental sustainability within a large range of professional fields. The College’s grounds, including Spencer Crest Nature and Research Center, serve as an outdoor classroom and lab space for many of the required academic classes

The Associate of Science in Agriculture is a transfer degree for the student who plans to major in an agricultural related field. Northark has agreements with the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and with Arkansas Tech University to offer students seamless options for transfer into specified agriculture majors or concentrations using the AS in Agriculture degree, but the degree can also serve as a foundation for students who plan to transfer elsewhere.

The Forest Resources program provides graduates with broad-based knowledge for the management of forest-based resources.

This program utilizes applied plant and animal sciences to manage the northwestern rangelands by balancing competing demands on the environment. Students will consider the soil, plants, and animals as a whole in their resource management plans.

The Sustainable Agriculture program is designed to address a safe, reliable food supply and the environmental relationships of agriculture with resource use, energy consumption, and climate change.

When you pursue a degree in natural resources, you will study the interdependence of resource concerns, conservation, and production agriculture management practices. You will also learn the characteristics and importance of our natural resources, sustainability, regulations, and best practices.

Successful completion of this degree program provides students with a broad base of skills related to a career in Natural Resources. The Natural Resources Associate of Applied Science degree program offers training in the areas of Invasive Species (Noxious Weeds); Range Management, and Forestry, as well as an introduction to GPS/GIS and Recreation and Wildlife. Successful graduates of this program may secure entry-level positions as seasonal, temporary, or permanent employees for state and federal agencies, or private industry. This degree is designed for students wishing to directly enter the workforce. It is not designed for transfer to a four-year institution, although some coursework may be transferable. Students who wish to transfer coursework are strongly encouraged to work closely with their TVCC advisor to develop a transfer plan and to identify and contact an advisor at their chosen transfer institution. A minimum of 90 credits and a minimum grade point average of 2.0 are needed to graduate with a degree.

Wildland Fire Management is any work associated with wildland fires in rural and urban areas. Large fires are major incidents that often cross jurisdictional boundaries. Local, state and federal fire agencies have adopted uniform standards, training and operational procedures to better facilitate interagency functionality during fires.

The Associate of Science in Natural Resources degree is designed to transfer. Therefore, completion of the degree alone does not qualify students for any specific career; however, completing an associate degree will improve overall employability and make students eligible for employment opportunities requiring an associate-level degree.
