In this program, you’ll learn to inspect, service, and repair airplanes and helicopters of all sizes. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)-approved courses provide a well-rounded education in general aviation mechanics. You’ll gain hands-on experience working with aircraft structures, engines, hydraulics, electrical wiring, flight instruments, and other aviation components and systems.

The Airframe curricula include theory and practical experience in construction, inspection, overhaul, repair, and maintenance of aircraft structures, systems, and powerplants. The program is approved by the Federal Aviation Administration. Upon completion of each course with a minimum grade of “C,” the student will be eligible to apply for the FAA examination for the Airframe and Powerplant license.

The Powerplant Certificates of Achievement curricula include theory and practical experience in construction, inspection, overhaul, repair, and maintenance of aircraft structures, systems, and powerplants. The program is approved by the Federal Aviation Administration. Upon completion of each course with a minimum grade of “C,” the student will be eligible to apply for the FAA examination for the Airframe and Powerplant license.

During the course of our two-year program, an average student will fly 220 hours to gain a commercial pilot certificate with an instrument rating. Aviation training at Big Bend is taken in conjunction with academic or vocational courses that the student chooses, to fulfill the requirements of the Associate in Arts and Science transfer option and/or the Associate in Applied Science-Commercial Pilot.

The program is intended to provide students with an introduction to Aviation Maintenance Technology's occupational area as currently understood and practised by Federal Aviation Administration mechanic certificate holders with airframe and powerplant ratings.

This Pilot Training Program prepares men and women of all ages to enter the exciting field of commercial aviation. A comprehensive selection of ground classes and flight labs prepare pilot training students to pass Federal Aviation Administration private pilot, instrument rating, and commercial pilot knowledge and practical examinations. Ground training is conducted at the main campus.

Aircraft Pilot Training offers an Associate of Applied Science degree in Fixed-wing (aeroplane). After completing your degree, you can become certified as a flight instructor to rack up airtime flight hours more quickly.

Our aviation maintenance training at MIAT College of Technology focuses on teaching students the advanced precision skills necessary to become FAA Certificated Airframe and Powerplant Technicians. The Associate of Applied Science degree combines the technical training of the full Airframe and Powerplant courses with the college's general education requirements to award a degree.

The Associate of Science in Aviation-Professional Pilot provides the first steps into aviation for those students who look forward to becoming commercial pilots and to completing a baccalaureate degree at a four-year college or university. In addition to completing rigorous general education requirements, students learn to fly single-engine aircraft and qualify to take the federal knowledge test and practical exam. This degree will serve as the foundation for advanced flight certification offerings, as well as provide seamless transfer degree opportunities to four-year institutions.

Our Aviation Electronics Technology program goes beyond the scope of just identifying and replacing faulty equipment.

A-B Tech and our certified flight-training partner, WNC Aviation, prepare students for various aviation and aviation-related careers with commercial airlines, general aviation, the aerospace industry, the military, or state and federal aviation organizations. Learn the fundamentals of flight, aerodynamics, aircraft performance, meteorology, navigation, federal regulations, aviation management, and instrument and commercial ground training.

The Aviation Management and Professional Pilot Technology curriculum can prepare you for various aviation and aviation-related careers, including commercial airlines, general aviation, the aerospace industry, the military, and state and federal aviation organizations.

The Aviation Management program is designed for students who plan to transfer to a four-year Aviation Management Program.

The Aviation Systems Technology provides individuals with the knowledge and skills to qualify for an aircraft mechanic’s certificate with airframe and/or powerplant ratings. The curriculum is approved by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) under 14 CFR Part 147, which governs aviation maintenance schools.
