15 Agricultural Science Associate of Applied Science Programs

The A.S. in Agricultural Science and Technology is designed to enable students to prepare for a career in this essential and diverse profession. It is also ideal for those who desire a career in agricultural education. The curriculum is flexible in nature to allow for previous experience and specialization in a given area of agriculture. The program is unique in that most courses provide hands-on experiences designed to give the students a combination of practical skills and technical knowledge.

Wallace State's Agricultural Production and Sustainable Agriculture programs are designed to prepare students for various jobs in local agriculture, business, and industry. Students may find jobs in areas such as landscaping, forestry, aquaculture operations, conservation, and farming. Other potential opportunities include managing or owning a farm, greenhouse or nursery.

Students seeking an Associates of Applied Science in Agricultural Operations – MSU can move directly in the workforce or continue on to further studies in Agricultural Operations. Students will take courses from Glen Oaks and Michigan State University College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (CANR) emphasizing fundamentals in farm and crop management. Students will study in such fields as soil and water usage, plant nutrients, crop disease and pest management, natural resource and land management, emerging technologies, and regulations. Students are required to meet with advisors from Glen Oaks and MSU on course selection.

Baccalaureate degree programs in agriculture may include various specialties, such as agricultural economics, agribusiness, agricultural sciences (animal science, crop or plant science, soil science, and horticulture), agricultural mechanics, and agriculture education. To transfer into a baccalaureate degree program in agriculture as a junior, students need to complete a minimum of 60 semester credits.

The purpose of the FSCC Farm and Ranch Management Associates of Applied Science degree is to provide students with the basic skills and knowledge needed in different agriculture industry sectors. The curriculum suggested is for students planning to enter an agricultural career upon completing the FSCC two-year program.

The Associate in Science in Agriculture Plant Science for Transfer Degree provides for applying the various principles of the biological and physical sciences in agriculture. The course offerings are fundamental and broad in scope to transfer and prepare to seek employment.

Employment opportunities are abundant in roles such as precision agriculture technicians, research scientist, crop specialists, etc., who work with soil testing companies, crop consulting firms, and fertilizer and chemical companies. Working in agriculture doesn't always mean farming. Farmers need help making important decisions about what crops to plant, what and how much chemicals to use, and how to improve yield. Precision ag graduates earn a two-year associate in applied science degree that allows them to go right to work helping to feed America!

The Ozarka College Associate of Applied Science Degree in Agriculture provides graduates of the program the knowledge and principles to manage their own agricultural operation or work in a variety of fields within the agriculture industry. The AAS in Agriculture is a two-year degree that provides students with foundational agriculture classes as well as providing a firm grounding in general education coursework needed in today’s agricultural marketplace.

The Field Crops option of the Agricultural Business Management Technology Program is designed to provide students with a common core of management skills and additional training related to field crops, weed, insect, and plant disease control.

The Associate in Science degree program is designed to lay a foundation in Agriculture studies and meet students' needs to continue education at a four-year university. Students have a choice to select one of six (6) option areas of study: Agribusiness, Agricultural Communications, Agriculture Education, Agroecology, Animal Science, or General Agriculture.

The objective of the Agriculture program is to prepare students for a career in a variety of fields associated with Agriculture. Students will be given the opportunity to pursue an Agriculture degree with one career-oriented focus. Students will develop the knowledge and skills necessary to work in an agriculture-specific field.

The Agronomy curriculum is designed to provide instruction in crop production, soils, marketing, field crop scouting, and business management. Cutting edge agricultural technology is infused into this curriculum wherever possible. Students will have the opportunity to apply concepts learned through hands-on activities at the NDSCS Kosel Family Agriculture Land Lab and other classroom and laboratory activities. The Land Lab is a 90-acre demonstration farm operated by the Agriculture Department, students, and industry partners. Students enrolled in this option will complete a 400-hour paid internship at a career-related training facility during the summer between their first and second year of instruction. Students graduating in Agronomy are prepared to find employment in seed sales, fertilizer sales, plant protection, crop consulting or other agronomic careers. The regional employment outlook continues to be very positive for graduates. Students will learn the fundamentals of agriculture, focusing on crop production and business. Emphasis is placed on entrepreneurial and field training. Students will also learn the basic principles of our economic system and government policies and programs relating to agriculture.

The Agriculture program prepares students for occupations in various jobs in agriculture (both production and value-added) with a range of skills and knowledge.

Guided Pathways for Baccalaureate Degree Programs at Northeast Texas Community College Campus in Mount Pleasant, Texas and Texas A&M University-Texarkana’s Main Campus in Texarkana, Texas As a result of the academic partnership between Northeast Texas Community College (NTCC) and Texas A&M University-Texarkana (A&M-Texarkana), guided pathways have been developed between NTCC and A&M-Texarkana faculty and staff through which students can earn their associate’s degree with NTCC and then transfer to A&M-Texarkana to complete their baccalaureate degree. For the selected guided pathways listed below without an asterisk (*), the bachelor’s degree can be completed on the NTCC campus with a combination of face-to-face, web-enhanced (50% online with 50% face-to-face), and/or web-based (100% online) courses. No matter the delivery method, students earning bachelor’s degrees on the NTCC campus in Mount Pleasant will be taught by outstanding faculty using best-practice strategies. A&M-Texarkana has also partnered with NTCC on guided pathway plans for additional bachelor’s degree options that require travel to A&M-Texarkana’s main campus in Texarkana, Texas. These degree plans are listed below and are marked with an asterisk (*). All course work for NTCC’s associate’s degree plans can be completed on the NTCC campus in Mount Pleasant, Texas. Students are only required to travel for the A&M-Texarkana courses not offered through distance education formats.
