San Jose City College offers both an Associate in Arts (AA) and Associate in Science (AS) in Art degree. Students planning to follow a transfer pattern should use the Associate in Arts degree. This degree may not transfer to all universities, and students need to inquire of the universities if they have a bachelors degree for their upper division course work. The Associate in Science has 2 possible areas of emphasis: Drawing and Painting or Photography. A minimum of 3 courses in the Art major must be taken at San Jose City College. A grade of "C" or better is required in each course in the major and area of emphasis for graduation.

San Jose City College offers an Associate in Science (AS), Associate in Science for Transfer (AS-T) degree and various certificates in Early Childhood Education (ECE). Graduates of the Associate in Science degree qualify through academic preparation and field experience for work in child centers, pre-schools, day care facilities, infant and toddler centers and other programs serving young children. They are able to use instructional techniques, which promote intellectual, social, emotional, physical, and creative growth in children. After completing the Associate in Science degree, students will be eligible for the Teacher Level of the State of California Childrens Center Permit, and qualify for employment as teachers in government and privately funded early care and education programs. San Jose City College offers an Associate in Arts (AA) degree in Business Administration. The Associate in Arts, Business Administration Major meets the lower division course requirements necessary for San Jose State Universitys BS-Business Administration with concentration in Accounting, Accounting and Management Information Systems (a formal dual concentration), Finance, Human Resources Management, International Business, Manufacturing Management, Marketing. A grade of "C" or better is required for all coursework in the major.

The degree programs require a total of 60 units; of which, 24 units are selected from General Education areas and the remaining 36 units are selected from a business major concentration. Several levels of certificates are available in each of the three areas of concentration. The certificate programs can be completed without the requirements of General Education. A C grade or better is required in all degree and certificate major and major elective courses.

The Associate in Arts in Dance degree will prepare students for transfer into a four-year dance major, minor or performing arts program. It can also prepare students for further study in other dance-related fields including performing, dance teaching, choreography, dance science, dance therapy, dance history or dance criticism. Upon completion of the degree students should be proficient in three or more dance technique styles at the intermediate level, have a firm understanding of dance appreciation and music theory, and be competent in creating and performing dance.

SanJoseCity College offers both an Associate in Arts (AA) and an Associate in Science (AS) degree in Alcohol and Drug Studies. Students planning to transfer should follow the AA degree. The San Jose City College Chemical Dependency Certificate is a certified CCAPP program and is designed to meet the California Consortium of Addiction Professionals and Programs (CCAPP) requirement of 315 hours of approved Alcohol and Drug training education; and 255 hours of Supervised Practicum. In addition the ADS program meets the requirements of the California Association of Alcohol and Drug Counselors (CAADE) with the General Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, and Social Programs certificate requirements.

Successful completion of the Associate in Arts in Construction Technology prepares students for entry into the construction trades, which require a technical skill and understanding of construction processes. Students planning on transferring to a four-year school should complete the AA Degree, which includes the 39-unit general education sequence of courses. Specific four-year institutions may require additional courses in the major to fulfill lower division requirements. San Jose City College offers a certificate and Associate in Science degree in Cosmetology. The Cosmetology Program is designed to provide those persons interested in becoming a licensed cosmetologist with instruction in technical and theoretical knowledge relating to the basic skills in all phases of cosmetology including current salon techniques and trends. Emphasis is placed on application of skills in hair coloring, permanent waving, chemical relaxing, hair styling, hair cutting, manicuring, skin care, facials and makeup. Instruction in professionalism, salon management, chemistry, anatomy, physiology, sanitation, Cosmetology Act, rules and regulations are included.

The Associate in Arts (AA) in Liberal Studies degree is offered for the student intending to transfer to San Jose State University and obtain a Bachelors Degree leading toward the career of teaching. The program provides an excellent foundation in general education including the arts, sciences, humanities, and critical thinking. Students completing the degree will have completed the lower general education and will be able to have that series of courses certified at the time of transfer to San Jose State University. The major courses also further enhance the liberal studies emphasis for depth and breadth of study. Students interested in transferring to other California State Universities offering teacher preparation programs should also review the major sheet for an Associate in Arts in Elementary Teacher Education for Transfer (AA-T).

San Jose City College offers an Associate in Science (AS) in CNC Machining and three certificates: CNC Machine Operator, Entry Level Machinist, and CNC, CAD/CAM Machinist. Successful completion of program prepares the graduate for entry into the machinist trade and positions in industry requiring technical skill and understanding of precision metalworking. Most courses applying to degree or certificate have basic language/math requirements and/or course prerequisites. A grade of "C" or better is required in all major, certificate and major elective courses.

The Network Administration certificate and degree program is designed to provide students with the necessary skills to gain employment as a network administrator. Most business computers are being connected in networks. The industry needs skilled people to configure, troubleshoot, and maintain these networks. The Network Administration Program is designed to train students to fill these needs. Five certificates and three Associate in Science Degrees specializing in General Networking, MCSE Windows, CISCO-CCNA, and UNIX are offered.

The Medical Assisting: Clinical program prepares the student for employment as a clinical (back office) medical assistant in a physicians office, clinic, or hospital setting. The student performs a variety of clinical medical assisting procedures including physical examination, medication administration, electrocardiography, minor surgery assist, medical asepsis, phlebotomy, and laboratory specimen handling, processing, and analysis. An externship in the clinical area of a physicians office, clinic, or hospital will provide the student with the necessary experience to enter the workforce.
