San Jose City College offers both an Associate in Arts (AA) and Associate in Science (AS) in Art degree. Students planning to follow a transfer pattern should use the Associate in Arts degree. This degree may not transfer to all universities, and students need to inquire of the universities if they have a bachelors degree for their upper division course work. The Associate in Science has 2 possible areas of emphasis: Drawing and Painting or Photography. A minimum of 3 courses in the Art major must be taken at San Jose City College. A grade of "C" or better is required in each course in the major and area of emphasis for graduation.

The Associate in Arts (AA) in Liberal Studies degree is offered for the student intending to transfer to San Jose State University and obtain a Bachelors Degree leading toward the career of teaching. The program provides an excellent foundation in general education including the arts, sciences, humanities, and critical thinking. Students completing the degree will have completed the lower general education and will be able to have that series of courses certified at the time of transfer to San Jose State University. The major courses also further enhance the liberal studies emphasis for depth and breadth of study. Students interested in transferring to other California State Universities offering teacher preparation programs should also review the major sheet for an Associate in Arts in Elementary Teacher Education for Transfer (AA-T).

San Jose City College offers a Certificate of Achievement and an Associate in Science (AS) in Accounting. This curriculum provides training for paraprofessional accountants, payroll clerks, bookkeepers, and similar workers in banks and business firms. Graduates from this program are qualified to meet the demands of offices requiring special skills in general bookkeeping and machine bookkeeping. Students may achieve an employment skill through this one-year program. An advanced course in the certificate must be taken at San Jose City College. A "C" grade or better is required in all required major and certificate courses including the approved program elective courses.

The Cosmetology Program is designed to provide those persons interested in becoming a licensed cosmetologist with instruction in technical and theoretical knowledge relating to the basic skills in all phases of cosmetology including current salon techniques and trends. Emphasis is placed on application of skills in hair coloring, permanent waving, chemical relaxing, hair styling, hair cutting, manicuring, skin care, facials and makeup. Instruction in professionalism, salon management, chemistry, anatomy, physiology, sanitation, Cosmetology Act, rules and regulations are included.

The San Jose City College Chemical Dependency Certificate is a certified CCAPP program and is designed to meet the California Consortium of Addiction Professionals and Programs (CCAPP) requirement of 315 hours of approved Alcohol and Drug training education; and 255 hours of Supervised Practicum. In addition the ADS program meets the requirements of the California Association of Alcohol and Drug Counselors (CAADE) with the General Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, and Social Programs certificate requirements.

The Medical Assisting: Clinical program prepares the student for employment as a clinical (back office) medical assistant in a physicians office, clinic, or hospital setting. The student performs a variety of clinical medical assisting procedures including physical examination, medication administration, electrocardiography, minor surgery assist, medical asepsis, phlebotomy, and laboratory specimen handling, processing, and analysis. An externship in the clinical area of a physicians office, clinic, or hospital will provide the student with the necessary experience to enter the workforce.

The Medical Assisting: Administrative program prepares the student for employment as an administrative (front office) medical assistant in a physicians office or clinic.
