Psychology is the scientific study of behavior and mental processes. You will learn about the different areas of psychology which include: social, clinical, behavioral, cognitive, biological, and developmental psychology. Completion of the Psychology: Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) will prepare you to meet minimum lower-division admission requirements (60 transferable units) for transfer to a California State University (CSU) or the University of California (UC). The Associate in Arts in Psychology for Transfer Degree is designed for students planning to transfer into a psychology major. A study of psychology is built upon the scientific study of human behavior and mental processes. Students pursuing the AA for transfer into the psychology major will study the nature of consciousness and the development of the person, basic processes of human perception, learning, cognition, and motivation; the relationship of behavior to physiology; and the nature of psychological disorders and how psychologists use their knowledge to help improve the quality of people’s lives.

The Associate in Arts in Psychology for Transfer degree covers the contemporary perspectives on understanding human behavior including biological, psychodynamic, humanistic, cognitive, and sociocultural, as well as the effects of nature verses nurture on behavior and abilities. Students learn how to analyze the various methods used to study behavior, including the naturalistic observation method, the correlational method, the experimental method, kinship studies, the epidemiological method, and the case-study method.
