Music is a systematic course of study that fosters meaningful cultural experiences in the performance, understanding, and appreciation of the art and discipline of music. Completion of Music: Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) will prepare you to meet minimum lower-division admission requirements (60 transferable units) for transfer to a California State University (CSU). The Music program map below includes all of your major coursework and recommended general education courses by term that is needed to fulfill your degree and transfer requirements.

At Music Business Management, you can specialize in an area of the music industry that interests you and gain the competence to work with music both in the Nordic region and internationally. Music Business Management is a two-year vocational education for those who want to learn about the Nordic and international music industry.

Skagit Valley College offers a number of music courses for the major and non-major. The student who wishes to major in music should meet with Dr. Diane Johnson and plan a two-year program that will meet his or her transfer needs. Be aware that when transferring to a four-year school or to a music conservatory, students will be asked to take a music theory placement test as well as a piano proficiency examination. Music majors are expected to practice their craft all four years of college and not just in junior and senior years as with some other majors. Because of this, careful academic planning is advised.

The Associate's Degree in Music includes courses in music theory, aural skills, ensembles, and applied lessons. Students will select from a comprehensive list of instruments for private study, including brass, winds, percussion, voice, piano, bass, and guitar.
