9 History Associate Programs

The Associate in Arts in History for Transfer is intended for students who plan to complete a Bachelor’s Degree in History at a CSU campus. A major component of the History program mission is for students planning to transfer into the History majors (or a similar major) with an understanding of History as the study of change over time, and we as the manifestation of that change. In other words, History is the study of us or the various components of the present. Upon completion of an AA-T in History, students will have an understanding of the diversity of the recorded past and an appreciation of the process of historical change. At the same time, a History major will gain critical reading and writing skills, which are valuable in life, and in any employment field, they choose to enter.

Complete your Associate in Arts Degree, Direct Transfer Agreement (AA-DTA) with an emphasis in History. Explore regional, national, and world history in a traditional classroom setting, online, or hybrid combining both classroom and online experiences.

The History program at Cañada offers students a unique opportunity to acquire critical and historical thinking skills while also developing a broad background in both U.S. history and the history of different regions and peoples of the world.

This history path prepares you to be a skilled researcher, an analytical thinker, an effective writer, and a keen observer of the human condition. There are many careers where these skills are useful. Among these are marketing and advertising, community outreach, social services, political campaigns, civil service, administration and management, human resources, program planning, professional writer, and editor. Completion of the Associate Degree in History for Transfer (ADT) will prepare you to meet minimum lower-division admission requirements (60 transferable units) for transfer to a California State University (CSU) or University of California (UC). Transfer to the UC may require additional coursework; please meet with a counselor. The History program map below includes your major coursework and recommended general education courses by term needed to fulfill your degree and transfer requirements.

The History Department’s mission is to meet the educational needs of our community by providing comprehensive and flexible courses which will enable students to transfer to four-year institutions, earn degrees and certificates in selected academic and occupational fields, prepare students for positions in the workforce, improve basic learning skills, and expand their general knowledge.
