4 Geography Associate Programs

Geography majors develop knowledge of international culture, environment, geoscience, history and politics while building critical thinking, analytical reasoning and practical problem-solving skills useful in a broad range of careers in today's complex, interconnected world. Completion of the Associate of Arts in Geography Degree for Transfer (Geography ADT) will prepare you to meet minimum lower division admission requirements (60 transferable units) for transfer to a California State University (CSU) or University of California (UC). Some UC schools may require additional coursework, so please meet with a counselor for further assistance. The Geography program map below includes all of the major coursework and recommended General Education courses by term that are needed to fulfill the degree and transfer requirements at a CSU.

Geography provides insights about the earth as the human habitat. It is a way of looking at the earth, not an inventory of its contents. This viewpoint rests on fundamental interlocking concepts. The cultural appraisal of the earth, the regional concept, areal coherence, human ecology, spatial interaction, study of landscape, and the concept of change are all ways the geographer tries to better understand the environment.

The curriculum combines topical coursework in introductory human geography and urban geography, and lab-science courses in earth science and atmospheric science.

The geology major offers students hands-on learning in the classroom, lab, and field. Intermediate and upper-level courses are relatively small and explore geologic materials, physical and biological processes, and earth history and change.
