The accounting AS degree is designed to give students enough practical experience so that they can secure a position in either the public, governmental or private accounting sector.

The AA degree in Accounting is designed to qualify students for employment in accounting and/or to provide a foundation for those students wishing to transfer to a four-year institution with a major in Accounting. To ensure student success in Accounting/Business, COA offers an exceptional tutorial program that is free to all students.

If you’re detail-orientated, this degree program could lead to a successful accounting career. Learn how to maintain records of accounts and handle business transactions for sales, expenses, payments, purchases, and inventories. You’ll learn to prepare, review, and interpret financial reports, which is critical information that helps management make business decisions. You’ll also gain skills in Microsoft Excel spreadsheets, computerized accounting software, payroll, cost accounting, and tax preparation. These services are essential for virtually any type of business, industry, or government operation.

San Jose City College offers a Certificate of Achievement and an Associate in Science (AS) in Accounting. This curriculum provides training for paraprofessional accountants, payroll clerks, bookkeepers, and similar workers in banks and business firms. Graduates from this program are qualified to meet the demands of offices requiring special skills in general bookkeeping and machine bookkeeping. Students may achieve an employment skill through this one-year program. An advanced course in the certificate must be taken at San Jose City College. A "C" grade or better is required in all required major and certificate courses including the approved program elective courses.

An Associate in accounting degree is designed to prepare students for immediate entry into the accounting field. Our accredited program combines a concentration in accounting, business, and general education subjects. With this program, you can graduate with a degree in two years. Credits are also fully transferable to the four year accounting major at Trine, and it serves as an excellent program for just this purpose. The Associate in accounting program requires 22 credits of general education, 38 credits in business courses for a total of 60 credit hours.
