The Interdisciplinary Master’s in Art, Media, and Design (IAMD) draws experienced artists and designers from around the world, encouraging them to investigate and produce works that combine art, design, writing, and interdisciplinary academic study to create new forms of visual and social research and creative production. Each student’s primary discipline and chosen emphasis among art, design, or media practice and theoretical inquiry will determine whether the degree earned is an MFA, MDes, or MA. This program teaches traditional Indigenous art forms as well as introductory-level theory and skills in various other fine arts and craft media. Students will learn traditional and contemporary Indigenous art forms such as beading, carving, footwear, sewing, and hide tanning, in addition to the cultural and historical significance of these art forms.

The Indigenous Arts Diploma is a two-year program that focuses on developing the skills and knowledge to be a self-employed artist. In the first year of the program, students will complete the Indigenous Arts Certificate, which covers core Indigenous art forms and introductory-level study in various other fine arts and craft media.

The BFA-Art Studio program provides you with the opportunity to pursue contemporary art production through theoretical and practical scholarship. Encompassing material, critical, and conceptual investigations, you work within an open studio context with faculty who are active artists and scholars. Develop your voice as an independent artist or arts professional through an intensive studio experience exploring technical, aesthetic, and theoretical studies necessary to pursue contemporary art.

The Department of Visual Art & Art offers a multifaceted experience, preparing students to become leaders in the creation, exhibition, critical understanding, and communication of visual culture in diverse environments.
