The MA in International Relations and Regional Studies master's programme combines a comprehensive study of international relations as an academic discipline and political practice with an in-depth understanding of particular geographic regions, including the European Union, Russia and Eurasia, and the Baltic Sea region.

International Relations and Area Studies program is an undergraduate interdisciplinary program that offers a rigorous international and comparative perspective on the contemporary global system and different regions of the world. Its aim is to foster creative thinking about complex global problems and to equip students with the analytical tools, language expertise, and cross-cultural understanding to guide them in that process. Our degree provides a solid grounding in international issues together with an opportunity to specialize in International Security or Area Studies.

The doctoral study program Area Studies focuses on various aspects of the contemporary (since 1990) development of Europe and North America, as well as on theoretical and methodological issues in the field of Area Studies.

The combination of media and area studies provides in-depth critical knowledge about processes of mediation and signification, and how space and geography intersect with them. The program is based on post-colonial theory, media sociology, memory studies and political geography. This is translated into a very practice based, research oriented approach. You can then gain employment in more senior/advisory positions in state administrations, private sector, public service institutions, and NGOs.

This program focuses on modern history and current developments in Europe, Eurasia, and North America. Thanks to its interdisciplinary approach, it covers a broad range of topics—from politics, security, and international relations to economic, social, and cultural developments, including legal and environmental issues. You can compile your own curriculum based on personal interests and career goals: either build an individualized thematic and territorial profile or choose from regionally oriented study tracks. You will be well-prepared for careers in national, regional and European administration and governance, international organizations, NGOs and think tanks, academia and research, media, or business.

It will teach you how to grasp regional problems in their context. You will understand the historical and cultural underpinnings of Central Europe. You can become a highly skilled employee in the civil service or diplomacy, in NGOs or international institutions as well as in private companies or media, or you may choose to pursue a Master’s degree, with the option to study in both English and Czech, opening up a range of new opportunities.

This is an interdisciplinary BA Hons in African Studies consisting of five modules of which two are compulsory.

This region is the source of world-class literature and some of the finest traditions in the visual and performing arts. Immigration from this region has brought to the U.S. outstanding artists, dancers, musicians, writers, scientists, athletes, and entrepreneurs, whose innovative influences reach deep into American cultural life. In this major, you will take courses with professors who are recognized experts in their fields. You will study the Russian language, spoken worldwide by some 250 million people, while also acquiring a foundational knowledge of the history, culture, literature, politics, sociology, economics, and geography of the region. Mason’s degree program is notably flexible, enabling you to focus your interests on one of three concentrations: Russian Studies, Russian Language and Culture, and Eurasia Studies.

The course consists of five modules. Modules 1 (Research Essay), 2 (Grammar of the Main Language) and 3 (Literature of the Main Language) are compulsory. The student chooses two other modules from two possibilities: a) Literature: Poetry, Prose, Drama, Oral Art and b) Linguistics: Sociolinguistics, Phonology and Morphology, Syntax and Semantics, Translation Studies
