Oman’s First Master Degree in Architecture and Urban Planning. The Master of Science in Architecture and Urban Planning (MSc AUP) at GUtech is the first program in the whole region to offer both Architecture and Urban Planning as specializations. The MSc program capitalizes on the expertise accumulated by the faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning at RWTH Aachen University and draws form the know-how of GUtech faculty behind the internationally accredited the BSc Urban Planning and Architectural Design program. The program is designed to train fresh graduates and professionals to address the challenges of a rapidly urbanized world by seeking innovative approaches in the built environment.

The University of Nizwa (UoN) was established in the Sultanate of Oman in 2004 as a faculty governed not-for-profit private university. It is located 140 km from the national capital of Muscat in the interior region of Al-Dakhiliya near the historic former capital of Nizwa. The University seeks to provide a progressive and safe learning environment that is respectful of the traditions and values of the Sultanate.

Architecture is a sequential process of conceptualization, designing and detailing of a built environment like residences, offices, hotels, hospitals, etc. It also involves application of engineering principles and technology to the design and construction of buildings and other structures. The students will also get exposure to various building materials, construction techniques and latest trends in the field of Architecture.

This is a four year degree program for those who want to gain knowledge in quantity surveying and cost management to pursue a career in industry or continue in graduate studies. The degree is awarded after the successful completion of 125 credit hours of undergraduate work listed in the curriculum below, including compulsory industrial internship and project study courses.

The quality of urban life is not measured by the scale of monuments, shopping malls, highways or top-down regulated activities, but by creating an environment, which is liveable, vibrant and sustainable.

The student should complete the coursework requirements specified in the degree plan with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00. For the thesis, the candidate is required to conduct the necessary literature review, undertake the research, analyze the results, write the report and communicate the results at an oral defense. This work need not necessarily be original research but should be a new application of ideas. The student should identify the research problem in consultation with the supervisor, which normally takes place in the second semester. The student should or can register for the thesis in the third semester after having completed at least 12 credits of the course work.

The Architectural Engineering program aims to provide the knowledge and skills required for designing and overseeing the construction work of buildings with due consideration given to the environment aspects as well the cultural aspects of a place.

Interior design is the process of conceptualizing space and creating commodious and expressive interior environments, which enhance the quality of life and contribute to the health, safety and welfare of society. The practice of interior design integrates the aesthetic and the cultural domains with the functional and the technical ones to provide design solutions that respond to human needs.
