The Summer School Acropoli of Populonia Archaeological Field School This Archaeology Summer School takes place in the scenic medieval castle of Populonia, overlooking the Gulf of Baratti and the islands of the Tuscan Archipelago. Once a prominent Etruscan and Roman city, the site is located in the heart of Tuscany, near Florence, Pisa, and Siena, within the Archaeological Park of Baratti and Populonia.

Archaeology deals with the study of the human past, conducted through material remains, i.e. artefacts that were manufactured, used, and discarded in ancient times. One of the most important task is to classify the artefacts, determining chronology, cultural attribution, form, function and other features. Neural networks and deep learning are powerful tools for supporting and facilitating such tasks, often time consuming and heavily depending on prior knowledge and expertise.

The CdLM aims to train graduates with in-depth cultural and methodological training in the field of archaeological research and practice in a broad context, which includes the Mediterranean, Asia and Africa, with constant reference to European and international standards. The collegial body of reference of the CdLM is the Council of the CdLM chaired by the Coordinator.

The IMQP Master’s program awards a Joint Degree (Master in Quaternary and Prehistory) signed and recognized by all European partner institutions: UNIFE, URV, MNHN, and IPT.
