The Doctor of Acupuncture degrees (Doctor of Acupuncture and Doctor of Acupuncture with Specialization in Herbal Medicine) are offered separately and can also be taken concurrently with the Master of Science in Acupuncture and the Master of Science in Oriental Medicine degrees.

The Diploma of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine is a 4-year (8-semester) program that deeply explores theoretical and clinical concepts of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine.

This coursework details the etiology and treatment of diseases by applying principles of point prescription in deciding upon a treatment plan and modifying as necessary to the patient’s symptom presentation. These courses are designed to instill knowledge about the theory of meridians, classification of acupuncture points and systems including the etiology and treatment of diseases utilizing common acupoint prescriptions as well as acupuncture needling techniques.

Our Master of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (MAOM) program offers comprehensive training in the ancient traditions of acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine. The four-year degree program is steeped in classical training and practices and is centred around each student’s cultivation and growth.

Acupuncture and Basic Theory (Trimesters 1-8): Learn basic Chinese medical principles in your lecture classes while building hands-on skills in point location, needling, accessory techniques and tui na in your methods classes.

The goal of the Doctor of Acupuncture with a Chinese Herbal Medicine Specialization (DAc) and Master of Acupuncture with a Chinese Herbal Medicine Specialization (MAc) programs is to train individuals to become a licensed acupuncturist. Students who complete the prescribed course of study at the American College of Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine (ACAOM) will be awarded a Doctor of Acupuncture with a Chinese Herbal Medicine Specialization (DAc) and Master of Acupuncture with a Chinese Herbal Medicine Specialization (MAc) degrees upon completion of its requirements.

The Master of Science in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (MSAOM) degree program is designed to provide a comprehensive professional education in acupuncture and Oriental medicine that prepares graduates to practice in clinical settings. This program is combined with instruction in biomedicine and emphasizes an integrative and holistic approach to healthcare. Graduates of the MSAOM program become eligible to take the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) licensure examination and the California Acupuncture Board (CAB) licensure examination.

Students awarded the MACM degree will receive comprehensive training in acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine.

The goal of the Master of Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine (MAOM) program is to train you to become a licensed acupuncturist.

In the first year, focus will be on the meridians and acupuncture points as well as on the needling techniques, while during the second year practical treatments of various diseases are put into attention. Students are required to write a thesis to finish their final year.

The Doctor of Acupuncture program is designed to educate and develop graduates to meet the growing need and opportunities for well-trained Chinese medical practitioners to serve in numerous types of integrative medicine settings across the country.

The twelve-trimester (four-year) 183-credit Acupuncture with Chinese Herbal Medicine Program is similar to the Acupuncture Program, with the addition of one further strand of courses--Chinese Herbology. This strand consists basically of two series of courses, the first of which introduces the student to approximately 400 individual herbs, and the second of which presents 250 or so herbal formulas or combinations of individual herbs.
