66 Acupuncture Degree Programs

The MAc program is designed to train highly skilled acupuncture practitioners who are capable of working successfully in the contemporary health care system — either as independent health care providers or as part of a collaborative health care team — and to provide in-depth coursework for lifelong learning and professional development.

The Acupuncture program combines well planned academic course work with broad clinical experiences, leading to a Master’s level Acupuncture Certificate.

The nine-trimester (three-year) 141-credit program in Acupuncture prepares students for licensure in and professional practice of acupuncture. The program contains three strands of courses--TCM, Acupuncture, and Western Biomedical Sciences--each of which consists of an ordered progression of material: The TCM strand begins with the basic theories of Chinese physiology based on Yin and Yang and the five elements and progresses in a stepwise fashion through Pathogenesis, Diagnosis, Syndrome Analysis, Treatment Principles, and Clinical Acupuncture Practice. Each successive course builds on the information presented in prior courses until a grand synthesis is reached in the Clinical Acupuncture Practice series.

Acupuncture has been recognized as a specialty in the health area since 1985, it is an integral part of the set of therapies classified since 2006 as “Complementary Integrative Practice” - PIC, but it has been part of the therapeutic arsenal at the three levels of health care for much longer. It consists of inserting needles in specific points of the body, associated with other forms of stimulation of these points (such as suction cups, heating, electrostimulation, low-power laser, etc.), and it has been practiced for millennia. The first historical findings of its use in the treatment of disease date back more than 4,000 years. From the 1960s on, acupuncture began to be understood in a scientific way in academic circles, through the theories of neuromodulation and immunological response to treatment.

The Doctor of Acupuncture (DAC) program is designed to prepare its graduates for leadership in acupuncture and integrative medicine. The Doctor of Acupuncture program leads to a Doctor of Acupuncture degree, allowing graduates to receive the highest level of education in the field, and achieve degree parity alongside other doctorally-trained healthcare professionals.

Course Description Acupuncture diploma program is a three years full-time program. Students will learn acupuncture concepts, herbs, TCM foundation … and other related topics. Clinic practice will also be involved in this program as an important part.

The Diploma of Acupuncture is a 3-year (6-semester) program that deeply explores theoretical and clinical concepts of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine.

American Institute of Alternative Medicine (AIAM) Acupuncture Program is a graduate-level program awarding a Master of Acupuncture degree with advanced academic demands within the full-time curriculum.

The M.Ac. program is a specialized subset of the Master of Acupuncture with a Chinese Herbal Medicine Specialization program that allows students to focus on acupuncture without the herbal component of the Master of Acupuncture with a Chinese Herbal Medicine Specialization degree.
