Photography is about developing practical skills and visual awareness to create exciting, professional and personal photographic work across a wide variety of genres. We explore the full breadth of the subject by working with a wide variety of techniques and processes from darkroom and digital through to layout work and more art-based processes.

Ideally you will have a keen interest in all aspects of photography from film photography to digital and social media photography. Students taking this subject have access to a professionally equipped studio and the use of bookable industry standard equipment, studios and a dark room to fully realise their creative potential.

The School of Digital and Creative Industries at Weymouth College has purpose-built facilities including a large fully equipped darkroom, photography studio, and a large suite of the latest Apple Macintosh computers.

You will need to be committed to an intensive course of study and prepared to devote a lot of time to the production of high-quality work on this course. You will explore a broad range of processes and techniques, learning new skills in our fully equipped, state of-the-art digital photo studio as well as the traditional darkroom.

Exploring both traditional and digital photography, you will produce work which will show your development and understanding of photography, learn how to use SLR/digital cameras, how the studio works, develop black and white film, darkroom skills and various Photoshop techniques.

Photography is one of the most important and influential means of communication in the world today and is highly significant within the creative arts. Photography combines both creative and intellectual skills and allows students to develop ideas and express their own concepts effectively.
