15 Fine Arts and Illustration A-level Programs

This is an exciting course which allows you to explore a vast range of design disciplines creatively. In the first instance, you will be introduced to the design process, and you will produce work through small exercises and design briefs.

During the Illustration/Graphics course, you will learn to develop design solutions, exploring the power of visual communication as an invaluable commercial tool. The course is structured to support and develop your confidence and individual strengths, from illustrative and traditional studio-based skills through to more graphics and digitally based practice, allowing for a broad and creative approach to design.

A Level Art and Design specifications offer a range of titles and specialisms that: Enable students to develop a wide range of skills and techniques, together with an in-depth knowledge and understanding of Art, Craft and Design. Embrace the current and emerging technologies including animation and games design, moving image and 3D digital design, as well as the traditional routes of art, craft and design such as drawing, painting and sculpture.

Art and design feature in every aspect of our daily lives from the cereal box we grab every morning to the trainers you walk to college in – they’ve all been through an artistic process.

This course is designed for creative people with an artistic flair and a keen eye for detail. Art and design is a broad subject which incorporates lots of different styles and techniques. During the course you will have the opportunity to tailor your learning to suit your individual interests and future career goals. You will have the opportunity to deepen your understanding of contextual and cultural art, and have the chance to build a collection of work for your portfolio to demonstrate your knowledge, skills and understanding of the subject.

This course is ideal for learners who have a specific interest in the visual arts and enjoy the challenge of visualising their ideas and feelings using a wide range of media, including computers. This course includes a personal investigation alongside the opportunity to examine the relationship between practical ideas and the History of Art. There will be opportunities to visit art galleries and other cultural events and you could enter your work into exhibitions.

This course will benefit students who want to explore the technical and conceptual possibilities of Fine Art. During your first year understanding the visual world by thinking through drawing is crucial; you will also experiment with paint using colour, texture and mark-making to express thoughts and feelings.

This A Level 3D Design/Ceramics course puts the emphasis placed upon functional and utilitarian considerations as compared to three- dimensional outcomes produced in other disciplines, such as sculpture in Fine Art, where the intentions might be centred upon the aesthetic qualities of expressive form. You will look at functional ceramics and product design, but aspects of craft may also be included, such as items that are concerned with functionality and manual skills as well as aesthetic qualities. Possible areas of study include: ceramics, sculpture and product design.

Throughout this course, you will have the opportunity to develop your individual creativity through the application of technology and hand-made approaches.

The emphasis of the course is on developing your own ideas and creativity with constant reference to contemporary art practice. It is a mainly practical course where you can choose to broaden skills in painting, sculpture, and/or textiles. The atmosphere in the art studios is alive with a diversity of ideas and methods of work. Many students gravitate towards the art studios in their own time to continue their work in a supportive, highly creative and very happy environment.

Our Art and Design A Level course offers students many opportunities to get involved in their area of interest.

At this level, you will start gaining a more profound understanding of the processes and techniques involved in the production of art. You will want to develop your flair for creativity and we will want to help you channel it by exposing you to new ideas. We will be pushing you beyond your comfort zone so that you can realise your full potential.

The Collingham Art Department provides an environment where students can develop and nurture this life affirming skill. Students will learn to develop their own unique approach to the world of the visual arts, refining and improving their ability to experiment with materials and respond to the visual world using the key skills of drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture and digital media.
