Biology A Level consists of lectures, discussion, fieldwork, practical work and investigations.

A level biology is the study of life itself. The course explores the theories and principles involved in all living systems. This course covers the brand new spec introduced in September 2015. Biology is the natural science concerned with the study of life and living organisms, including their structure, function, growth, origin, evolution, distribution, and taxonomy.

This A Level is included within the following A Level pathways as a recommended core subject: Environment, Geography and Earth Science; Medical Health; STEM and Healthcare. It is included in the following pathways as a recommeded additional subject: Creative Studies; Maths, Physics and Computer Science; Social Sciences. However, you can take Biology with any A Level/equivalent combination, there is plenty of choice and flexibility.

In this qualification you will learn about a wide range of biological concepts and techniques, including cellular structure and function, biodiversity, health and diseases, natural selection and speciation, genetics, biochemistry of respiration and photosynthesis. Practical work is central to any study of biology, for this reason the course includes 18 core practicals which link your theoretical knowledge and understanding to practical scenarios.
