This is an exciting course which allows you to explore a vast range of design disciplines creatively. In the first instance, you will be introduced to the design process, and you will produce work through small exercises and design briefs.

A History of Art A level is excellent preparation for degree-level study in the subject. It is also of benefit to those wishing to pursue studies in or careers in the media, art and advertising. It develops skills of analysis and interpretation that are of great value to a very wide range of subjects. Art historians are much sought after for their analytical and evaluative skills in the art market as well as the museum, heritage and cultural tourism industries.

This A Level is included within the Creative Studies A Level pathways as a Recommended Core subject. However, you can choose Art: Historical Practice with any A Level/equivalent combination, there is plenty of choice and flexibility. Historical Practice is a unique way to study the History of Art without the need for any timed written exams. The course is assessed 100% through your own coursework. This course will give you the opportunity to extend your knowledge of key artists and the times in which they worked.

The emphasis of the course is on developing your own ideas and creativity with constant reference to contemporary art practice. It is a mainly practical course where you can choose to broaden skills in painting, sculpture, and/or textiles. The atmosphere in the art studios is alive with a diversity of ideas and methods of work. Many students gravitate towards the art studios in their own time to continue their work in a supportive, highly creative and very happy environment.

Our Art and Design A Level course offers students many opportunities to get involved in their area of interest.

This course is ideal for learners who have a specific interest in the visual arts and enjoy the challenge of visualising their ideas and feelings using a wide range of media, including computers. This course includes a personal investigation alongside the opportunity to examine the relationship between practical ideas and the History of Art. There will be opportunities to visit art galleries and other cultural events and you could enter your work into exhibitions.

The Art Department here at Brampton College promotes the development and practice of skills and develops students’ visual awareness and conceptual thinking, in a world that is increasingly dominated by visual information. There is an emphasis on experimentation, and students are encouraged to work in a dynamic and energetic way, as well as with sensitivity and care.

This course is designed for creative people with an artistic flair and a keen eye for detail. Art and design is a broad subject which incorporates lots of different styles and techniques. During the course you will have the opportunity to tailor your learning to suit your individual interests and future career goals. You will have the opportunity to deepen your understanding of contextual and cultural art, and have the chance to build a collection of work for your portfolio to demonstrate your knowledge, skills and understanding of the subject.

This is a two year study programme which is equivalent to 3 A Levels, however a one year option is also available which is equivalent to 1.5 A Levels. Both programme years will accrue UCAS points should your chosen progression route be a UK university.

You will need to be committed to an intensive course of study and prepared to devote a lot of time to the production of high-quality work on this course. You will explore a broad range of processes and techniques, learning new skills in our fully equipped, state of-the-art digital photo studio as well as the traditional darkroom.

At this level, you will start gaining a more profound understanding of the processes and techniques involved in the production of art. You will want to develop your flair for creativity and we will want to help you channel it by exposing you to new ideas. We will be pushing you beyond your comfort zone so that you can realise your full potential.

This course will benefit students who want to explore the technical and conceptual possibilities of Fine Art. During your first year understanding the visual world by thinking through drawing is crucial; you will also experiment with paint using colour, texture and mark-making to express thoughts and feelings.

Creativity is at the heart of every area of our lives – it is an essential skill that enables us to be effective in all that we do. The Collingham Art Department provides an environment where students can develop and nurture this life affirming skill. Students will learn to develop their own unique approach to the world of the visual arts, refining and improving their ability to experiment with materials and respond to the visual world using the key skills of drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture and digital media.
