As Argentina was a Spanish colony until it gained independence in 1853, it still maintains a higher educational system that is broadly similar to that of many European countries.

Argentina has state universities, like the prestigious University of Buenos Aires, and private institutions, like Austral University. These schools sometimes specialize in specific areas - science, engineering, humanities, etc. - while some offer more of a range of courses. Think of this range as being akin to the Juilliard School of Music’s specialism against Cornell’s wider range.

As for how you actually study, it's the same as in most countries. It's a mixture of lectures, readings and independent study. If you are studying a practical subject, then you will also spend time in a lab or workshop.
