Feb 28, 2022
Study in Ukraine

On February 24 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine. For an update on the current situation, click here.

If you're an international student currently in Ukraine, here are some resources on what to do and how to stay as safe as you can.

If you can leave, here is a list of all embassies and consulates in Ukraine. You'll need to tap on your country on the left-hand column. Click here for the list.

If you can't find your country's embassy listed, click here for the page to the Polish Embassy. Poland is offering safety to students from Nigeria, India and other countries. The website is only available in Ukrainian and Polish, but can be translated using your browser.

If you're having trouble reaching the webpage, or translating it, you can call this number to reach the Polish Embassy in Kyiv: +380 44 284 0033

If you're in Lviv, or elsewhere in Ukraine, please call the Polish Consulate in Lviv: +38 032 295 79 90

The Ukrainian government has also set up a hotline for international students wanting to leave Ukraine. That number is +380934185684

Stay Safe in Ukraine:

Below is info on how to stay safe in Ukraine:

  • Most importantly; do not panic, follow the instructions of all police and soldiers on the ground. If you don't speak Ukrainian, ask a Ukrainian who speaks English to translate for you. English is quite widely spoken across Ukraine to a decent level.
  • If you hear an air raid siren, head to your nearest shelter. Remember to take your passport. A map of air raid shelters can be found here:

The maps above are in Ukrainian, so here is a translation of the important parts:

  • Підвал = Shelter
  • Підвал з пандусом = Shelter with disabled access
  • Станція метро = Metro station

Leaving Ukraine

If you can leave Ukraine, do so. But do NOT try doing this by yourself. Contact your embassy or consulate in Ukraine. If you can't get through, contact the Polish Consulate in Lviv here: +38 032 295 79 90. Poland is helping Indian and Nigerian students get to safety. Do NOT try leaving Ukraine on your own.

Your Passport, Food and Water

Take your passport with you everywhere you go, especially if going into air raid shelters. You might have to leave at a moment's notice, so you'll need it.

Always carry bottled water with you wherever you go. You could spend a long time in an air raid shelter, so make sure to take some food with you too.
