Introduction
Bachelor's Degree in Film, Television and Media Studies
Universidad Carlos III de Madrid started in 2003 the Degree on Audiovisual Communication. This was the basis of the present curriculum, which has been implemented progressively since the 2008/2009 course. We also need to point out that since 2009/2010 the degree is offered in both English and Spanish. This fact distinguishes our studies and opens new job possibilities for our graduates. Up to date around 460 audiovisual communication students have been in our classrooms and now perform their professional work in different areas: audiovisual production and distribution, television, radio, cultural management, audience analysis, etc.
The goals and challenges of the Audiovisual Communication Degree are, according to the expectations it generates in today’s societies, multifarious and ambitious. There is no doubt that the different scopes of audiovisual communication assume a central character in the performance of audiovisual industries, both in sectors consolidated by years of experience (radio, television and cinema) and those born in these decade, as a product of the technological innovations and new contents, services and social uses (internet and videogames are two good examples).
To sum up, the Audiovisual Communication Degree tries to offer comprehensive training in terms of knowledge within the context of the transformations to the audiovisual system in the digital era, enhancing esthetic and creative skills related to content innovation and stimulating the critic and creative capacity of a student body to influence in the near future the political, industrial and professional aspects that affect the audiovisual sector.
