More about USA

USA Grand Canyon educations

To study abroad at college or University in the United States, students must complete a long application process. There are many choices to make and papers to fill in, so starting the planning early – at least a year before you want to study – is best. The research and work it takes to study at a school in the USA is completely worth it when you are there!

Education Types in the USA

There are three main types of higher education in the United States from which to choose. In addition, each college and university in the USA has a number of internal schools to decide between, such as school of business or school of arts and science.

The three types of higher education in the USA are:

State Universities

State universities, or public universities, are founded and subsidized by each state’s government. State universities often have a high number of students and low tuition costs compared to those of private universities. International students pay the same tuition for this education as students from out of state.

Private Universities

Private universities in the United States are funded by a combination of donations, tuition fees, research grants, and gifts from alumni. The school is normally smaller and tuition is often higher than at the state universities, but all students pay the same amount.

Community Colleges

Community colleges, sometimes also called junior colleges or two-year colleges, are community-based schools that work closely with secondary schools, community groups, and employers. Community colleges in the US can both be private or public and provide two-year associate degree programs. The tuition is often lower, and many students start their higher education here, then transfer from community college after two years to the local state university to continue a bachelors degree.

How to Enter Higher Education in the United States

Washington USA education

There are several different options available to study in the United States:

1. Study Abroad – Students take a few free standing education courses at the school for one or two semesters. Not all the universities or colleges in the US have this kind of opportunity so it is best to contact the school for more information. At some universities, students apply to education courses when they apply for the school, but at most universities, students choose their classes when they have arrived in order to start their education in the United States.

2. Undergraduate / Bachelor – Students enroll in a complete education curriculum which is normally four years long. Upon completion of this education program, graduates earn a Bachelor Degree.

3. Postgraduate / Master - This type of education is aimed at those who already have a Bachelors degree. A Postgraduate or Masters degree in the US will provide students the opportunity to gain an in-depth knowledge of the topic of their choice. Upon completion, graduates are awarded a Masters degree. A Master degree will usually take three to four semesters to complete.

Education in the United States is an exciting and fulfilling opportunity to pursue a study abroad university degree or other type of schooling at one of so many top institutions for higher education in this vibrant country.
