NYC statue of libertyNew York City originated as a Dutch trading post in 1624 called New Amsterdam. 40 years later, the English gained control and renamed it New York. From there, New York City grew enormously and has been the largest city in America since 1790.

There are a number of large, public higher education institutions in New York City with several campuses located throughout the state of New York.
