Humanities

The Humanities include history, literature, arts, philosophy, religion and other subjects that study the human condition from a cultural perspective. Humanities uses analytical, speculative and critical research methods insted of the empirical method used by the natural and social schienses. In studying humanities you will practice your critical and analytical thinking skills and deepen your sources of knowledge by looking back on humanities through history. You will learn to see the connections between different areas of research and improve your written and oral communication skills whilst doing this.

Humanistic studies teach you to read, study, think, write, and articulate your ideas. To study humanities is a fantastic way to put together an education which will fit you perfectly. You will develop your skills in reading, writing and researching by problem solving on your own and in study groups by studying all aspects of society and culture, human behavior and past events.

Areas and Degrees of Humanities

All the areas; history, literature, arts, philosophy, religion etc. are classified as humanities and will thus provide you with a Humanities Degree. There are programs that combine these though most universities and colleges keep separate courses and programs within these areas. The broad range of knowledge included in a humanities degree makes it rewarding at any level. An Associate's Degree, for example, is often accomplished by mixing courses such as drama, art, languages, philosophy etc. and will give you a very broad base of education. This will also qualify you for further studies in humanities going on to a Bachelor´s or Master´s degree.

If you are truly passionate about the subject of your major you may proceed to a PhD level which will qualify you for positions at colleges/universities or other top-level research posts.
