

The University of Tasmania, in the Australian state of Tasmania, was officially founded on 1st January 1890 and is one of the oldest universities in Australia. The university has two main campuses in Hobart, the state capital of Tasmania and Launceston.
The University of Tasmania is home to some 20,000 students - a fifth of which are from overseas - and offers a diverse range of courses within the following categories:
UTAS's primary aim is to nurture the partnership between staff and students. Working together in achieving excellence in teaching, learning and research. UTAS offers one of the widest range of courses in Australia (100 undergraduate courses) yet is small enough to provide an environment where each student can enter into a partnership with staff to achieve their goals.
The University of Tasmania work with universities around the world to offer students an international experience as part of their study - exchange arrangements exist with more than 90 countries throughout Europe, Asia and North America. The university also conducts internationally significant research in a number of areas and in countries throughout the world.
The Universities International Student Support Unit exists specifically to assist international students when studying at, and moving to the University of Tasmania. They provide assistance with travel arrangements, visas, accomodation and orientation to the university and Tasmania.
