
The University of St. Gallen (HSG) was founded as a “Business Academy” in 1898—in the heyday of St. Gallen embroidery — and offered its first lectures in 1899. HSG continues to pursue the goal of providing its more than 7,000 students with a practice-oriented education, guided by an integrative view of management, economics, law, social sciences and international affairs. With success: the University of St. Gallen has constantly been ranked among the top business schools in Europe.
The University of St.Gallen offers education programmes at various levels. Bachelor's education courses for undergraduates are taught in the German language. Six of the twelve Masters education programmes (postgraduate programmes) are taught entirely in the English language. Furthermore, we offer several Ph.D. education programmes in English. HSG's Executive School of Management, Technology and Law (ES-HSG) provides several postgraduate courses, e.g. a full- and part-time MBA.

HSG is Switzerland’s business university with the strongest placement results. Graduates may expect top-level starting salaries and the University’s Career Services Center supports them upon their entry into the labour market.
The HSG Alumni association consists of more than 19,000 members in 100 clubs on 5 continents.
The University of St. Gallen is constantly ranked amongst the top business universities in Europe. In the Financial Times Global Masters in Management Ranking 2011, HSB is in 1st place with its Master in Strategy and International Management and in 2nd place with its CEMS Master in International Management. The University of St. Gallen's Master in Banking and Finance is ranked 12th in the Financial Times Masters in Finance Ranking 2011.
In addition, HSG has enhanced its reputation with the EQUIS and AACSB International accreditations.
Contrary to general opinion, tuition fees are rather low in Switzerland. The reason for this is because the lion’s share of the actual costs is subsidised by the Swiss Confederation and the cantons. In addition, HSG benefits from numerous sponsorships thanks to its good relations with trade and industry.
The Campus of the University of St. Gallen is situated on a hill on the outskirts of the city of St. Gallen. The town centre can be reached on foot in about 15 minutes. HSG's Campus offers a beautiful view of the Alps and of Lake Constance.
The University of St. Gallen offers the latest facilities and services to support individual and collaborative learning, including web-based communication platforms and wireless LAN. The library contains around 460,000 books, 70,000 e-books, some 1,400 journals and some 16,000 e-journals.
