The University of Debrecen, as it is now known, was created in January 2000, but can trace its educational roots back to 1538.  

The university has over 30,000 students and 1,700 instructors - One of the largest higher education institutions in Hungary. The University of Debrecen is one of the top three research institutions in the country and over half of its instructors hold doctoral (PhD) degrees.

The Centre of Arts, Humanities and Sciences is one of the three centres that constitute the University of Debrecen, and itself has seven academic faculties.

Debrecen, Hungary

Debrecen is the second largest city in Hungary and the regional centre of the Northern Great Plain region. Situated 220km east of Budapest, Debrecen has a population of approximately 205,000.

The city is Hungary's most important educational center with numerous universities, colleges and schools.

The focal point of the city is the Great Church. The main square outside the church hosts outdoor performances, numerous coffee shops, fountains and trees.

Debrecen also has a thriving cultural and sporting tradition with famous football, handball and basketball teams. The beautiful Csokonai Theatre and Déri Museum both play an important role in the city's flourishing cultural life.



Accomodation

The University of Debrecen provides a variety of accomodation options. From a three-star hotel on campus, apartment blocks and dormitories: all located near the university campus.

The University dormitory is situated 15 minutes walk from downtown and a 5 minute walk from the Great Forest. The two buildings of this facility encircle a beautiful park.
