Description and information about accommodation Preston

Preston

University of Central Lancashire, PrestonThe large population of UCLan students has turned Preston into an energetic city with a buzzing nightlife and a growing arts scene, surrounded by pubs, clubs and eateries that provide worldwide cuisine to cater for every palette. You might find it a bit of a surprise coming to Preston for the first time. Maybe you're not sure where it is but you know it's Up North somewhere. Preston is a large and thriving city with good transport links by road, rail and air, making Preston an ideal location for national and international travel.

Situated in quite literally the heart of North West England, Preston is the gateway to Lancashire's beautiful landscape and contemporary developments. With the city's superb road, rail, air and sea links Preston provides a fast and easy gateway to national and international destinations.

University of Central Lancashire's campus is situated in the Adelphi Quarter of the city which offers excellent amenities on Friargate and around campus. These include a campus Cinema, shops, cafes and bars. If that wasn't good enough for you, as an UCLan student you also have your very own night club 53 Degrees which plays host to a variety of Themed nights called PROMO and the best line-up of live gigs including: Dizzee Rascal, The Hoosiers, Jo Lean and Jing Jang Jong, Biffy Clyro and Hot Chip. And if that's not your thing, then you might like our fortnightly comedy night, Stand and Deliver.

As with any city we have an excellent schedule of cultural events throughout the year offering our fabulous and ever popular Caribbean Carnival, Preston Mela celebrating the Asian culture and community and European Markets. There's always something going on and sometimes we even have extra's such as Radio 1's BIG WEEKEND which came to Preston in May 2007.

Living at the University of Central LancashirePreston brings together students from different backgrounds and circumstances often forging lifelong friendships. You may be surprised to find a multicultural population, both on campus and in the city. Many of the shops, restaurants, places of worship and festivals reflect this cultural diversity.

The cost of living in the Central Lancashire region is generally lower than in many other parts of the UK. All accommodation is self catering and you will find very reasonably priced shops and food outlets on or close to the campus.

Accommodation on campus is generally allocated to encourage students to integrate with others from the UK and from other countries. If you have particular preferences about sharing it is important to make this request early.

When you are made an offer of an academic place at the University of Central Lancashire, the Admissions Office will provide you with information on how to apply for your accommodation.
International students are encouraged to arrive at the University four weeks before the UK students (or one week in the case of European students), to attend a programme specifically designed to help them settle into life in the UK. Accommodation for this period will be arranged on your behalf, if the University is notified of your attendance on the programme. Instructions on how to do this will be sent with your offer letter. For the rest of the year, every student will be offered a choice of places to live, which are close to the campus and managed or registered by the University.
University_of_Central_Lancashire_1The two main types of accommodation provided by UCLan are:

    University owned accommodation
    University registered accommodation

Every bedroom in UCLan owned accommodation has a bed, study desk and chair, chest of drawers, wardrobe, wash hand basin, whilst Roeburn Hall and University Leased Halls are fully en-suite in every bedroom. There are also adapted rooms in the halls for those students with disabilities.

University registered accommodation is rooms or apartments rented out by private landlords but known and approved by UCLan.

If you want to take a break from your studies at the University of Central Lancashire, there are lots of ways to enjoy yourself.
