Zlin in a city located in south-central Czech Republic on the Dřevnice River. What was once a small village dating back to the 14th century is now a lovely town with roughly 78,000 inhabitants. The city of Zlin is closely connected to the creation and growth of the Bata Shoes company, founded in Zlin in 1894. At this time, Zlin had a population of about 3,000 people. Over the years this shoe-making establishment grew enormously, and became an internationally renowned company. The owner, Tomas Bata, was even voted mayor of Zlin. During World War I, Bata Shoes supplied the Austro-Hungarian army with footwear.
