Malta, with 400,000 residents, is the smallest member of the European Union. It is an archipelago of Islands right in the middle of the Mediterranean. Through its chequered history, Malta was an important naval base to the powers of the day, spending most of its modern years as a Colony of the British Empire, thus absorbing a British Education System.
The Maltese are bi-lingual, with English spoken, read and written fluently by the vast majority of people. Thus international students, both from the EU and others flock to Malta to study English and Tertiary level programmes mainly because of its great weather, relaxed atmosphere, and the convenience of doing diverse activities in any one day due to its size!
