Description of Masters in Finance

Masters_in_Finance
London Business School's Masters in Finance (MiF), taught by world-renowned faculty and closely aligned with professional practice, is the most comprehensive and highly regarded postgraduate qualification for experienced finance professionals looking to deepen their financial knowledge in order to fast-track their career or perhaps change functions within the field of finance.

As a generalist programme in a specialist field, it will provide you with a strong foundation in the principles and practice of finance, a substantial base of new concepts and knowledge, new skills, analytical tools and perspectives, giving you a sound basis for financial decision-making and managerial effectiveness.

More than 40 nationalities are represented on our Masters in Finance programmes and students come from a diverse range of finance-related professional backgrounds, bringing a wealth of experience to the classroom. They are all united by a high level of intellectual ability, the capacity for hard work and the motivation to take on a demanding and challenging commitment. The interactive nature of the programme ensures that you are exposed to the global professional experiences of your fellow participants.

The Masters in Finance is of particular relevance to people wishing to further advance their career in:
  • investment, commercial and retail banking
  • investment management, hedge funds, security analysis and broking
  • capital markets, trading and risk management
  • the finance function of industrial, commercial and service organisations
  • corporate finance, venture capital and corporate restructuring
  • corporate planning and consultancy, where a detailed knowledge of finance is required
  • other organisations, such as accountancy firms, regulatory bodies, legal firms, property consultants, commodity businesses and investor relations specialists requiring and in-depth understanding of finance
  • finance within the public sector and not-for-profit organisations, including central banks, local/national governments and international organisations.

If you want to find out more about Masters in Finance, you can make an information request below and the school will contact you with further information.

Application and qualification

The Masters in Finance programme is practical and applied. Yours and your classmates combined experience is a major part of the overall learning experience. It is therefore not designed for people without prior finance experience who are planning to effect a career change into finance (for this, a general management programme like our MBA is a more appropriate course of study). It is, however, an excellent choice for people who wish to accelerate their career in finance, switch areas within it or generally expand and deepen their finance knowledge for an enhanced career.

You will need to be a highly motivated, intelligent individual, with a minimum of two years finance-related work experience (our class average is 6 years), a strong GMAT score (our average is 680), a strong academic background, as well as fluency in English.
