Description of University of Aberdeen

University_of_Aberdeen

Welcome to the University of Aberdeen - excellence in teaching and research since 1495!

Founded in 1495, the University of Aberdeen is the fifth oldest university in the UK, and combines ancient tradition with the best in modern teaching and study facilities. The University has a student population of around 14,000 and a large international community of students drawn from 120 different countries. In the World’s top 200, Aberdeen has an excellent reputation for teaching quality and research, and has had, over the years, four Nobel Prize winners.

The University of Aberdeen has a beautiful central campus where ancient buildings sit side by side with modern, first-class laboratories, up-to-date computing facilities, including a wireless networked campus, and the latest library technology. The very best learning resources are on offer to support studies, and £230 million is currently being invested into new facilities and resources for students to ensure that the student experience at Aberdeen is incomparable. This includes a flagship library for the 21st century, and an Olympic world-class sports complex.

Opportunities exist to study abroad on a wide range of programmes, and links exist with universities in Hong Kong, Japan, North America and throughout Europe.

97% of the University of Aberdeen students enter jobs, research posts or further study within six months of graduating - an indication of the links with industry, major research centres and leading international universities that Aberdeen works hard to implement.

Aberdeen offers a wide range of programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate level including over 550 first degree programmes and over 140 taught masters across the three Colleges of Arts and Social Sciences; Life Sciences and Medicine; and Physical Sciences.
