MSc in Animal Nutrition and Feed Safety

Animal nutrition incorporates fodder and crop production, fodder conservation, also feed manufacture, and the quality control of feeds. Quality of the animal-origin foods is affected mainly by quality of the animal feeds, and therefore this latter one has crucial importance in human nutrition. Feed safety refers to the requirements of consumers, also to maintaining welfare conditions for food-producing animals, as well as to sustainability of the environment and its conservation.

These criteria has necessitated specialist in all area of feed and food industries, such as production, quality control, research and development and also professional organizations and authorities. Courses cover all of the above mentioned topics both in animal nutrition and feed safety. Graduated students will have the opportunity to make successful carrier in any area of feed industry, feed and food processing industry, quality control laboratories, and even in the professional organizations and authorities. Graduates will have the knowledge to continue their studies and research on PhD level.

The course is offered by the Faculty of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences.

Application and qualification

Application Procedure


Students interested in the BSc/MSc programmes need to complete an Application Form to be considered for admission to the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. Documents are available at the Registrar's Office or can be downloaded from the FAES website.

The Application Form and all the necessary documents (Final Diploma or its Certified Copy, Result in English Language Test or its Certified Copy, Scientific activities and results, Curriculum Vitae, References, Certification of Bank Transfer of Application Fee, Medical Certificate, Learning Agreement) must be sent to the address below. Documents may be emailed if the forms have been scanned. An application will be considered only after all of the requested documents have been received. Accepted students will receive an admission letter with all necessary information for the next steps.

Admission


Successful candidates will be admitted after the first semester's tuition fee is paid, all the required documents are received and the minimum number of students (10) have registered for the course.

Admission criteria


- Undergraduate degree (B.Sc. or equivalent) in relevant field of science or related area (Degree qualifications are assessed individually in accordance with the diploma and its attachments, or with the Report of Study (Index)).

- When the field of degree is not related to the chosen M.Sc. Programme, credits of the relevant courses in the Report of Study (Index) will be acknowledged by the admission office.

- Good command of English.

Faculty of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences

GodolloThe Szent Istvan University, Faculty of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences is situated in Gödöllo, 30km from Budapest, and can trace its roots back to 1920. With the creation of the The Szent Istvan University, the Agriculture and Environmental Sciences department improved and expanded its fields of training, research and extension services.

The mission of the faculty is to train environmentally and human oriented experts in fields relating to food industry and environmental conservation. The faculty promotes educations and awareness in the fields of crop production, animal breeding, game management and fish breeding, horticulture and agricultural biotechnology.

Expenses

The BSc/MSc programme tuition fees cover education, research, organized field trips, and study tours.

Application fee: 50 EUR/student (paid at registration)
Tuition fee: 2300 EUR/student/semester (paid 30 days before registration)
Student ID Card: 7 EUR/student/semester (payable at registration)

Other expenses include accommodations listed above (estimated at 250-475 EUR per month) and health insurance (cca. 40/month EUR).

Szent IstvanThe Szent István University was established in 2000 with the merger of several former independent universities and colleges. The university provides education and training in several fields of life sciences, engineering, humanities as well as social sciences.

Although some of the schools within the university have up to 220 years of teaching experience, the Szent István university as a whole has gained nationwide and international recognition in just one decade.

Szent István University comprises of 10 Faculties, with more than 23,000 students and 3,000 academic staff.

Szent István University is dedicated to ensuring top quality teaching and living conditions for its students, and has undertaken an extensive programme of refurblishment: opening a fully refurbished new student hostel for 464 in Gödöllő; multimedia laboratories at the Veterinary Faculty, the Ybl Miklós School of Architecture in Budapest and the School of Liberal Arts in Jászberény; a new student information center has been created in Gödöllő; and student hostels are being renovated both in Jászberény and Gödöllő. In addition to these recent improvements to the universities facilities, Szent István University is planning to expand lecture halls and seminar rooms at the Ybl Miklós School and the entire reconstrution of the education buildings in Gödöllő as part of their ongoing development.

Accomodation

Szent István University is fully residential and has exclusive dormitory facilities providing excellent accommodation to all students. There are single and double rooms with attached bathrooms and kitchens. All the rooms are furnished including a study table, chair and cupboard/shelf. There are common areas for socialising and a laundromat for student use.

Students should apply for housing at the same time they apply for the programme.
