MA International Relations

The MA in International Relations examines the challenges and dangers of this post-Cold war era and its promise for a safer, more equitable, more caring global system. The program trains students in conflict management techniques and ways to counteract world poverty and human misery on the periphery. We invite you to play a professional role in understanding and then sustaining this new world of ours.

The international relations curriculum is designed to enable the student to examine and understand the complexities and processes involved in the relationships among institutions of international governance. Course-work provides exposure to legal, historical, and context-sensitive socioeconomic and political factors that are key elements in a study of this nature. Examination of the dynamics, structural characteristics, and humanitarian issues operating within the global community is included.

The 36 credit hours required for the Master of Arts (MA) degree must include 3 required courses, 2 courses from the Comparative Politics cluster, 4 courses from the International Politcs cluster and 3 elective courses.

Leiden

Leiden is a very historic town, famous for its canals, quaint alleyways and national museums. The city has a total population of 118,000 and life in Leiden is greatly influenced by the large number of students living and studying here. When walking through Leiden, its rich history still seems very much alive. This is where Rembrandt was born and developed his painting skills and where Clusius brought the first Dutch tulips into flower. Leiden has 12 museums, all worth a visit. The priceless and unique collections on show enjoy international fame.

Student housing at Webster University

Webster University’s new Living and Learning Center is located just 100 steps from our main building in the heart of the old city center. The building was built in 1929 and is a sound example in both its exterior and interior design of the stylish and easy recognizable architecture of a 'Rijksmonument' (National Monument). The location has always been used for educational purposes. It was initially used as a vocational school for young women and most recently housed a language school. In keeping with this educational tradition, it is now home to Webster Leiden’s Living and Learning Center.

There are 50 private studio apartments available as well as teaching facilities, a private courtyard, a work out center equipped with changing area and showers, and several community rooms for convenience. The Center will offer on site resident assistance and the office of Student Services is located inside the main entrance.
