Lund University was founded in 1666. With eight faculties and a multitude of research centres and specialised institutes, it is today the largest unit for research and higher education in Sweden.

To study in Lund means that you can be a part of a stimulating life as a student, with associations, unions and nations, debates, parties, film and theater, spex, student evenings with famous people etc. Through the multitude of subjects, environments and people that study at Lund University, everyone can feel welcome and recognize themselves.

Description of Lund and accommodation

Lund

Lund, a city of 100,000 inhabitants, is located in southern Sweden, about 15 minutes by train from the major city of Malmö and less than an hour by train from Copenhagen, Denmark.

Lund not only represents a thousand years of history: it is also very much an exciting city of youth and of bustling student life which explodes every fourth spring in a student carnival. For many centuries Lund was a cultural and religious centre in southern Scandinavia and its traditions of learning date back to the Middle Ages, when the divinity school was located there.

There are many different ways of living as a student in Lund. A good way of being introduced to student life is living in a dormitory(Sw:korridor) where you share a kitchen and living room with other students. Apartments are also an option, there are both private and student alternatives. Some students live outside Lund, in Malmö or Eslöv for example, where it is easier to find a place to live. The communications are good and distances short.

According to law a housing agency cannot charge more than 2000 sek for getting you an apartment and 700 sek for a room. The fee should not be payed until the deal is completed.

Young people between the ages of 18 and 29 without children may qualify for allowance for housing costs. You must live and be officially registered in Sweden(staying for more than one year) to receive housing allowance. As a rule you must also be registered for census purposes in the accommodation for which you are applying for an allowance.
