International Construction Management is a 2 year exchange programme for students of the ICM partner institutions of Hanze University Groningen. The course is aimed at students with a keen interest in construction, have a good eye for detail, good communication skills and enjoy the prospect of studying or working abroad.

Graduates in International Construction Management are trained to become construction engineers who are also able to work in an international setting with specialist knowledge in materials, techniques, calculations, structures and European building regulations. You will speak one or more foreign languages and be comfortable in consulting with principals, subcontractors, advisors and authorities.

Structure of International Construction Management programme

Semester 1    study at home institution
Semester 2    study at home institution
Semester 3    study at home institution
Semester 4    study at home institution
Semester 5    theory course at Hanzehogeschool Groningen
Semester 6    theory course at Hanzehogeschool Groningen
Semester 7    industrial training The Netherlands
Semester 8    final project in home country for home institution (and optional for Hanze University Groningen)

Application and qualification

Prerequisites for studying International Construction Management

Students wishing to study International Construction Management must have at least two years of education in architecture/building construction at Bachelor level.

Language requirements

Students from partner universities are expected to master the English language comparable with an IELTS score of 6.0 (with no sub score below 5.5) or a TOEFL score of 550.

Groningen is a lively university town, which is located in the North of the Netherlands. The town is home to nearly 200,000 people, almost a quarter of which are students.

The old town centre offers numerous opportunities for leisure, ranging from shopping to relaxing in the restaurants and pubs in Grote Markt and the streets surrounding the town centre.

Sport is a constant theme within town and student life. Groningen offers opportunities either to watch or to participate in most sports; football, skating, volleyball and cycling are among the most popular.

Since there are a lot of students in Groningen, there are a lot of facilities especially aimed at student life, such as sports, bars, cinemas, libraries and internet cafés. It is not surprising that Groningen was voted best city centre of 2006!
