Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University is an affiliating and teaching University that aims to facilitate and promote studies, research and extension work in emerging areas of higher education with focus on professional education in the disciplines of engineering, technology, architecture, management, medicine, pharmacy, physiotherapy, nursing etc. The university also aims to achieve excellence in these and related fields and other matters connected therewith or incidental thereto. The University is recognized by University Grants Commission (UGC), India.

Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University awards various degrees such as: B.Tech, B.Arch., M.Tech, MCA, M.Sc., BCA, BBA, MBA, BMC, B.Pharma, BPT, MPT, BHMCT, B.Ed., LLB, LLM, BHMS, MBBS and Ph.D. The admission to these programmes is done yearly through a Common Entrance Test.

Within a span of nine years, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University has been able to make its presence felt the world over. It is running more than 60 programmes in 10 University Schools of Studies and 80 Institutes, imparting professional education to more than 38,000 students with an annual intake of about 12,000. Believing in the philosophy of continuing education, the University has started a number of Post Graduate level Weekend Programmes in Management, Technology and Mass Communication for working professionals, which have become very popular.

The university's state of the art campus with ultra-modern facilities in an area measuring 60 acres is being build at West Delhi (Dwarka). With an aim to provide Research and Development facilities of international standards, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University has decided to set up an Institute of Information Technology in East Delhi (Surajmal Vihar). The University is currently functioning from its Campus at Kashmere Gate, Delhi spread over an area of 16 acres. On this campus, the University is running 10 schools and One University Maintained College (IGIT) imparting professional education to more than 3000 graduate and post-graduate level students.

Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University encourages the teachers and the students for extensive research work. The university is becoming known as a centre of quality research, international publication and for the best standard of its graduates. The University has 70 state of the art well equipped sophisticated laboratories at its Kashmere Gate Campus with indigenous and imported equipment. The aim is to help the students in performing practical work and testing their theoretical knowledge in practice. These laboratories provide dynamic, broad based research environment and strong foundation to the students and research scholars. Each school has its own dedicated laboratories.
