Goa University
Goa University is accredited with Four Star rating on a 5-point scale by NAAC.
Goa University
is the only University in the State of Goa and one of the renowned centres for higher education in the country. The University was established in the year 1985 around the nucleus of Centre for Post Graduate Instruction and Research of the University of Bombay in Goa.
Goa University
campus is located on the outskirts of Panaji, the capital city and spread over nearly 173 hectares on the Taleigao Plateau overlooking the scenic Zuari River joining the Arabian Sea. The 23 PG Departments and 2 Centres of studies offer academic programmes leading to master’s and Ph.D. degrees in various disciplines.
In 2001,
Goa University
was accredited with a Four Star rating on a 5-point scale by NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council). Its PG departments, over the years have developed excellent facilities for research. Seven of the Science Departments are currently supported by DST under FIST. Goa University has academic programmes in a wide range of subjects. The University is constantly exploring ways to make the courses relevant to the changing needs of education.

also offers PG Diploma programmes in selected disciplines. The master’s programme in Biotechnology is supported by DBT since inception of the course. Degree programmes in Physical Education and Fire Technology were added during the academic year 2004-05. Four year B.Sc. (Nursing) degree was added during the academic year 2005-06. The University launched a certificate course in Portuguese language through DEITI in 2005-06. M. Com. (Distance Education Mode) was launched during 2005-06.
Goa University
has one of the best teacher-student ratios. Various programmes and facilities of the University cover a wide range of disciplines in teaching and research. Goa University has a Campus Wide Network (LAN) and all the individual Departments have been provided with connectivity to this network. The University has established a Remote Sensing Laboratory with the financial and technical assistance from ISRO. To the students of nature and bio-diversity, the University offers a unique opportunity as it is situated in the Western Ghats region, which is rich in flora and fauna.
The Study India Program is a unique initiative of the
Goa University
that is aimed at overseas students from all countries provided they meet the general prerequisite of proficiency in English. The University has Central Computing facilities at its Computer Centre. The Computer Centre extends required assistance to the teachers, students and Research Scholars in Computer related activities. Goa University has a Sports Section, which looks after Sports of the post-graduate students as well as of the colleges affiliated to our University.

Thanks to its incredible beauty,
Goa
has earned numerous nick names such as Tourist Paradise, Rome of the East, Jewel of India or Pearl of the Orient. Thousands of visitors from round the globe keep thronging the state throughout the year. Contrary to popular belief it's not all about beaches. There are many destinations in Goa offering a potpourri of sorts for visitors. Being an erstwhile Portuguese colony, Goa houses a number of world-famous churches and other Portuguese wonders.
Goa University
provides hostel facilities on the University Campus for men and women students to accommodate 113 and 200 students in the respective hostels. Students studying in the post-graduate courses of the University will be accommodated in the hostel, subject to availability of places, There is also limited hostel accommodation possible for research students.
Over the years,
Goa University
has developed a number of facilities to make life on the campus more amenable. In addition to canteens located at various points on the campus, there is also a Public Call Office with STD/ISD facility, a post office, Xerox facilities etc. The State Bank of India has a branch located on the Campus. The University has a guest house with an attached dining hall for visiting faculty and other guests, and also campus housing for teaching/non-teaching staff.
The

Guest House is located on the picturesque Taleigao Plateau overlooking the Zuari River. The serene atmosphere of the plateau and academic temperament on the campus gives a perfect and soothing feel to the guests at the Guest House. In all there are 40 odd rooms in the Guest House made up of AC, VIP and Standard guest rooms. The Guest House rooms are mainly reserved for the academics visiting on the official work of Goa University. However if rooms are available they are also given to officials from other Universities, Institutions, Governmental and Non-Governmental organizations etc.
