Today's Riga, the largest city in the Baltic States, is a vibrant, fast-evolving modern city that has a lot to offer. Music plays an important role in the everyday life so when you want to relax, Riga has so much to offer: from music festivals, concerts, folk music to hot night spots.

Students coming to Latvia are advised to travel outside the capital as well. Visit Jurmala, the “Latvian Riviera”, or Sigulda, the “Latvian Switzerland” both easy accessible by train. Jurmala is a spa town 25 km from Riga, stretching along the coast of the Baltic Sea. Its 30 km of sandy, golden beach and pine forests attract holiday makers in spring and summer. The architecture of Jurmala, with its elegant small wooden houses has the charm of the nineteenth century. Sigulda is located in the picturesque valley of the river Gauja with steep blanks, sandstone caves, and ruined medieval castles which make this town unique.

Student Accommodation
Its a good idea to make arragements for your accommodation before your arrival in Lativa. Private accommodation costs about 300-350 EUR/month for Studio apartment and higher for multiple bedroom apartments. In Riga it is possible to have a long term contract with student hostel which costs about 200 EUR/month. Food prices are similar to Europe. Details of how to rent an apartment can be found on the websites www.ss.lv, www.dzivoklis.lv. Usually apartments are possible to rent for short and long terms. Students should be prepared for the cost of living similar to other European countries. The amount that you need will vary, however, as a rough guide we recommend a minimum of around EUR 250 per month (exclusive of accommodation)
