Faculty of Communication

The Faculty of Communication at Istanbul Bilgi Universitesi strives for an education that encourages and enables individuals to take control of meaning rather than being controlled by it. The Faculty puts great emphasis on developing students' habits of critical thinking, with the understanding that thinking can be articulated not only through words, but also through images and sounds.

The Faculty of Communication is intensely aware of the significance of the fact that the process of communication is part and parcel of the apparatus of communication. Therefore, technological innovations are closely observed and quickly adopted, technical facilities are continually upgraded and then efficiently integrated into education and training. Artistic and cultural implications of such innovations are of great interest within the mentality of education at the Faculty. In this regard, the curriculum is continuously updated to provide flexibility and adaptability in order to meet the needs arising from such rapid changes.

The Faculty of Communication does not only employ an inter- and multi-disciplinary perspective in education, it also aims to establish and implement dialogue on a number of levels among its divisions and departments, enabling students to cooperate with other students coming from diverse disciplines and become acquainted with a wide range of interrelated fields of knowledge: the theory and practice of media, art management, film and television, visual communication design, journalism, photography and video, public relations and advertising. All these fields together constitute a large map of knowledge that assures that students of Istanbul Bilgi Universitesi navigate in the appropriate direction in both education and career.

1) International Student Application Form (you can ask by fax or e-mail)

2) Proof photocopy of High School Diploma (with official transcript)
(If you are graduated from a foreign high School you have to take equivalence of the diploma from the Ministry of Education)

3) Record of scores for one of the following English language tests (if available):
- Official TOEFL Score 520 PBT
190 CBT
68 IBT
- IELTS Academic Score 6.0 Band
- BELT (BILGI English Language Test) 85
- Institutional TOEFL 520
- TOEFL TWE 4

4) Proof photocopy of the applicant's passport

5) 2 photographs

6) Proof photocopy of Record of score YOS examination* (please read the inscription below) or other examinations

Non-Turkish students applying to Faculty of Communication who are about to graduate from high school in a foreign country and want to start an undergraduate degree must apply to YOS which is a selection, testing and placement exam for foreign students.

In order to take this exam, you have to get an ''application form '' and a '' guide of OSYM - YOS 2008" by mail or you can contact the nearest Turkish Consulate in your country for detail information about the exam. If you would like to apply by mail please write to;

Note: If you do not take the exam or you already missed the dates, you have other alternatives like;

If an international student cannot take the YOS Exam for any reason or does not score the required 40 points on the Basic Learning Skills portion of the examination she/he may submit one of the following exams for admission:

- SAT 1 (Scholastic Aptitude Test) with a minimum of 1000 points
- ACT (National College Admission Examination) with a minimum of 21 points
- Abitur
- Matura
- International Baccalaureate (IB)
- GCE A Level Certificate with a minimum of 2 courses
- French Baccalaureate
- Tawjihi Examination Held in Jordan and Palestine with a minimum of 70 points
- Baccalaureate Examination held in Lebanon with a 50 points
- Al Shahada-Al Thanawiyya (Baccalaureate) Examination held in Syria with a minimum 170 points in sciencetifc stream and 25 points in language
- Gaokao held in The People's Republic of China with a minimum of 450 points.
- Diploma Debirestan with a minimum of 15/20 points and Pisdanesgahi with minmum of 15/20 points held in Iran

Students at Istanbul Bilgi Universitesi participate in numerous extracurricular activities, including various student clubs and sports. They are also engaged in University governance via the Student Union. The university provides emergency medical and psychological counseling services free of charge.

The "Online Education System" provides students online access to course materials, messages and evaluations from their instructors at their personal computers. Istanbul Bilgi Universitesi campuses are equipped to provide for all the academic and extracurricular needs of students, including conference halls, libraries, computer labs, and sports facilities with a semi-Olympic size indoor swimming pool as well as a fitness center and a basketball court.

Tuition Fees for undergraduate programs at Istanbul Bilgi Universitesi are 14,000 USD per academic year.
